The Rotary Clubs of Oldham Metro and Saddleworth work together on several projects each year, supporting local community and charitable causes throughout both local areas.

Most of the charity money the Clubs allocate to these local causes has been raised through the annual Wellifest Music Festival and the Saddleworth Show, which the two Clubs jointly manage with the help of local volunteers.

And it is fitting the Clubs donate much of the money to deserving causes locally.

During the later part of last year, Oldham Metro and Saddleworth Rotary Clubs were approached by Hollinworth Academy seeking support for a project to provide two cycles specifically tailored for use by their pupils.

Hollinwood Academy is a special school and provides an educational offer for children and young people with a diagnosis of autism spectrum condition and speech, language and communication needs.

Both Clubs agreed to provide funding for a cycle at a cost of £1,150 per cycle.

The cycles design meets the specific needs of the school pupils and were recently delivered to the Academy.

The Thereplay tracer tricycles will enable the school to delivery cycling to all students.

Representatives of both Oldham Metro and Saddleworth Rotary Clubs met with Hollinwood Academy staff and pupils to see a demonstration of how the cycles would benefit the work at the Academy.

Hollinwood Executive Headteacher, Laura Millard, thanked the Rotary Clubs for their generous donations.

Jack Wild, President of Oldham Metro Rotary, said: ”We are always looking for deserving local good causes to support and members felt this project was one that we could happily fund.”

Saddleworth Rotary President Clint Elliott said: ”I know both Clubs were moved to support Hollinwood and the reward can be seen in the joy the cycles have brought to the young people here today.

Greetings to Everyone & a Happy 2025! Apologies to Everyone for the lack of News regarding Wellifest in the last few months as behind the scenes there's been plenty going on to try to bring everything once more to fruition & also we'd like to say a big thank you for all the messages & the positive enquiries, All appreciated!
Unfortunately it's not good News. Wellifest will not return until 2026 as this year's proposed event hit a few major snags that have led us to the point that we have to make this announcement.
Changes behind the scenes have occurred but also there has been issues to secure the site this year too which we've held off for as long as possible for a positive outcome. Sadly it has not reached the conclusion within the needed timescale . We have plenty of exciting acts lined up & hopefully we can return Next year even Bigger & Better. Best Wishes from Everyone at Wellifest & continued thanks for all the support.

ROTARY SUPPORT MADHLO
Mahdlo Youth Zone recognise the pressures on young people and their families, who find themselves struggling to provide, sometimes even the basic needs, over what should be a time of celebration and enjoyment.

Their Christmas Appeal hopes to provide a better Christmas for those young people in Oldham who would otherwise have missed out.

The Rotary of Saddleworth members are regular supporters of Mahdlo and members wanted to target any donation to the appeal at providing regular food opportunities to those young people, who during this period might struggle to get a regular meal.

So, the regular evening teatime free meal provision, which is being run by Mahdlo for their young people in the run up to Christmas and beyond into the New Year, was ideal. A donation of £1,000 to this aspect of the Mahdlo Christmas Appeal was agreed by the Saddleworth Rotary.

Club President Clint Elliott said, “To be hungry at Christmas when those around you are celebrating must be particularly difficult. Our members recognise the great work that Mahdlo is doing to help young people throughout the year but particularly their efforts to bring some joy to those in need over the Festive period.”

Events Lead Elizabeth Kershaw in thanking Saddleworth Rotary for their generous donation said, “We are incredibly grateful for the generous support we receive throughout the year and at especially at Christmas, we are thankful for the extra help to bring joy to our young people.

“ A massive thank you to Saddleworth Rotary for their generous donation, your kindness is making the festive season brighter for so many!”

Full details of the Mahdlo Christmas Appeal can be found on their website at www.mahdloyz.org/christmas.
