Litter Action Ryton Krew - LARKs. Litter Action Ryton Krew (LARKs) is the litter picking page of Brighten Ryton. All equipment (pickers, bags and bag rings) is provided.

The aim of the LARKs is to reduce litter and fly-tipping in the Ryton and Stella ward through community action, education and organised events. How To Get Involved - The LARKS meet every 3rd Sunday at 10.00am at a pre-arranged location in Ryton that requires particular attention. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide gloves due to hygiene reasons, so would strongly suggest you bring your own. Please contact us for more information.

We tend to pick up the same item types over and over again. The ones shown below are probably the ones we come across the most. It's upsetting that some people have so little regard for the environment that they'll dump materials on the ground that may never decompose. It also makes me feel really proud that our volunteers do so much to remove these items from our environment. Volunteer litter pickers are amazing, well done all ❤️💚

Busy morning for our resident superstar. Derek's sorted the bin at Runhead bus stop. What exactly was the point in tipping it over behind the bus stop? Thanks to Derek it's now back in place.

Other litter picked up around Haugh Lane. What was the point in chucking a tin of paint into the vegetation? The mind boggles 🙄 Another thank you to Derek for sorting that.

35 bags plus assorted flytipping collected from Newburn Bridge Road this morning. In addition to those in the photo there was our team leader Tracy, David, Derek and our MP Liz. It was a fantastic turnout and thanks to so many people turning up we got almost right the way along 🙌 It’s been a fab morning with some lovely new people 🤩🤩 Thank you all for being awesome 🙌

Our superman is back from holiday and is back on the job 🤩 Derek collected one bag collected this morning (plus lots of offloading) around his usual Village, Peth & Willows patch. Bag left next to a new double bin on Holburn Lane.

The findings following last nights post exams party 😡
- broken glass bottles, on the willows and in Ferndene Park

- a destroyed sign
- a still smouldering fire

A huge thanks to our awesome volunteers who were on standby this morning to clear the carnage we were sadly expecting. It’s disgusting we need to do this but we’re lucky to have such amazing people in the community to clear this mess.

End of exams party carnage on the willows this morning. Broken glass all over. Please do take care. Some of our incredible volunteers are going down to finish the clean up that had already began this morning.

What an absolute disgrace. We’re all for letting off steam and celebrating the end of exams. But, it is disgusting that they trash our shared spaces. The party was also in Ferndene Park. That got trashed too.

The lovely Janyce has been busy. After walking through Addison Wood yesterday and noticing how clear the woods had remained after our litter pick earlier this year, she entered Addison Industrial Estate and saw the state of the road. So being the superstar that she is she went back and picked 2 bags of rubbish 😍🤩

Our resident superstar Derek has been out again. We do love when he shares the pics of his findings in our group chat but sometimes we despair 😩 We’re happy to see the burnt out bin has been replaced in Ferndene Park but were a bit shocked that Derek found litter that had previously been collected, now apparently dumped 🤷‍♀️ and there is also what appears to be a burnt out golf buggy 🤦‍♀️
