The aim of the LARKs is to reduce litter and fly-tipping in the Ryton and Stella ward through community action, education and organised events. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide gloves due to hygiene reasons, so would strongly suggest you bring your own. Please contact us for more information.

Our resident superstar Derek has been out again. We do love when he shares the pics of his findings in our group chat but sometimes we despair 😩 We’re happy to see the burnt out bin has been replaced in Ferndene Park but were a bit shocked that Derek found litter that had previously been collected, now apparently dumped 🤷‍♀️ and there is also what appears to be a burnt out golf buggy 🤦‍♀️

This morning 7 of us returned to Crookhill and picked 11 bags of litter, 3 tyres and what we think may be an inflatable hot tub 😳 Thanks to Derek, George, David, Peter, Anne, Liz and Becky. We’ve had a lovely day for it and were reminded of the beautiful views from Hexham Old Road 😊

It is deeply concerning to see plastic wrapping left in a field where horses graze. Unfortunately, we do not know who owns these horses, so we are raising this in the hope of reaching them or someone who does. Horses are naturally curious animals and may investigate or accidentally ingest plastic, which can cause serious and potentially fatal digestive blockages. Even small fragments can pose a choking hazard. Beyond ingestion, loose plastic can become tangled around legs, causing cuts, stress, or injury through panic. If you are the owner of these horses, or know who is, please do check the field and remove any plastic wrapping as soon as possible. This field is next to Crookhill Park.

Some of you will have seen our earlier post and noticed the main man himself was missing. Sadly Derek couldn’t make it this morning but that hasn’t stopped him. Over the last fortnight he’s been out 4 times 🤩

This morning 7 of us tackled Hexham Old Road. Aidan, Tracy, David, Julia, Pauline, Liz and Becky collected 10 bags of litter and an obscene amount of flytipping. We certainly left the place better than how we found it 😄
