Last night Crafty Crew stayed warm and cosy in Hazlehurst Studios, whilst the rain poured outside. They created a whole variety of fabric pumpkins using recycled fabrics. As usual the creative buzz was accompanied by lots of chat and giggles. Everyone was very impressed with the battery powered glue gun…something for all our crafty members to add to their Christmas wish lists 😄

Last night’s meeting was all about B**r and Witches

Today is World Mental Health Day.
Take some time to take care of your own mental health, perhaps spend time in nature or doing something you love. Find someone you can talk to openly.
To help someone else, allow them time and space to talk.
Being able to share openly with others can help us feel connected and less alone.
Look out for ourselves and each other this

WORLD HOMELESS DAY | 10 OCTOBER

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home.

On 4 June 2026, WI members voted 92% in favour of the resolution “Action on women’s homelessness.”

Women’s homelessness is often hidden. Official rough-sleeping figures don't tell the whole story. Women may be sofa surfing, staying with friends or family, living in unsuitable accommodation or remaining in unsafe situations because they have nowhere else to go.

The WI is calling for better recognition of women’s homelessness, greater prevention and improved temporary accommodation.
World Homeless Day was first marked on 10 October 2010 and is now observed in more than 100 countries across every continent except Antarctica.

This World Homeless Day, remember: homelessness doesn't always mean sleeping on the streets.

Yesterday was a busy day for members of Runcorn WI. The morning was spent meeting NCNW CIC to discuss how we can support them in connection with our The Women's Institute campaign In the afternoon we joined Halton Village Ladybirds WI to celebrate their 80th birthday. We were entertained by the Irish Guard Singers. The evening was spent at a Cheshire Federation WIs Village Group event at Whitley Village Hall with Lesley Smith Historians gave a dramatic portrayal of Peggy Knight British Special Operations Executive during World War 2. The day perfectly summed up WI life - campaigning, friendship and education.

Today, due to refurbishment at the station community room, our ‘Between the Lines’ book club met at Halton Libraries Halton Lea Library. Author John Ironmonger joined us to talk about his books including ‘Not forgetting the whale’, which we read last year. ‘The year of the dugong’, ‘The many lives of Heloise Starchild’, ‘The wager and the bear’ and his latest novel ‘The Angel of St Piran’. We had lots of questions and it was so interesting to get an insight into his writing process and how the characters develop. We talked about many things including trophy hunting, climate change, rich old men, gymnastics and chimpanzees. A really interesting session, plus we had delicious homemade cake. Many thanks to Barbara for organising it.

From today, we're delighted to be taking part in the Big Give Women & Girls Match Fund.

For one week only, every pound donated to our No More Violence Against Women campaign will be matched💰

This funding will help us to:

• Train WI members to become No More Violence Ambassadors.
• Develop new educational resources and campaign materials.
• Increase understanding of domestic abuse, including coercive control and other non-physical forms of abuse.
• Equip members with the confidence to speak about violence against women in their communities.
• Support members to organise awareness events, talks and local activities.
• Encourage community action during the UN's 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
