Today is International Day of Charity.

Here in Runcorn and across Halton, we know just how much charities, community organisations and volunteers do to support local people and make our communities stronger.

From fundraising and food banks to community groups, youth projects, support services and people simply giving up their time to help others, there are countless examples of people stepping up and making a difference.

Charity isn’t only about money. It’s about time, kindness, compassion and people looking out for each other.

Today, Halton Labour wants to say a huge thank you to everyone who volunteers, fundraises, works for a charity, serves as a trustee or supports a local cause.

You might not always realise the difference you make, but our communities are better because of you.

📍 Out and about in Sandymoor today!

Our local ward councillors and volunteers have been out today listening to residents, hearing your concerns and taking action on the issues that matter locally. 💬

From local services and roads to the issues affecting our neighbourhood every day, we believe local people deserve councillors who are visible, accessible and prepared to get things done. 💪

We’re proud to be out in our community — not just at election time, but working for you all year round. 🏡

Cllr Leck has today raised with the Council's Chief Executive and Leader concerns from local residents regarding reports of a possible historic well discovered during the demolition of the former Waterloo Centre in Runcorn.

Runcorn has a proud and fascinating history, including links to Æthelflæd and the Anglo-Saxon settlement that once stood here. If this discovery has the potential to add to our understanding of the town's heritage, we believe it is important that it is properly investigated and recorded.

We have asked the Council for clarification on the reports and what steps, if any, have been taken to assess the significance of the find. We will provide an update when we receive a response.

There are significant footpath maintenance works due to start on 15th September 2026, in Sandymoor, affecting the cycleway alongside the Expressway and paths from Sandymoor Lane and running behind Bisham Park, Sheriden Way and through to Walsingham Drive. Whilst residents in the immediately affected areas will receive letters, notifying them of these works, I know that this will affect others from further afield, including runners and dog walkers, so I just wanted to give you a heads up and advise that you may wish to find a different route that week.

🌿🧹 Bridgewater Ward Clean-Up! 🧹🌿

A great afternoon of community action around the old swimming pool in Bridgewater Ward! 💪

Ward Councillors Carol Plumpton Walsh and Stef Nelson were joined by Council Leader Angela Ball, fellow councillors and local volunteers to tackle litter, clear w**ds from the front of the building and generally give the area a much-needed tidy-up. 🙌

We were lucky with the weather too — thankfully, the rain wasn’t anywhere near as heavy as predicted! ☀️🌦️

Cllr Carol Plumpton Walsh has also asked the Council to arrange for the area to be treated with a scarab to give the area a good clean.

A huge thank you to Halton Borough Council for their support and for loaning us the equipment to make today’s clean-up possible. 👏

And a special thank you to Alan, a local resident, who came along to help today. Alan had already been busy tidying around the back of the building and regularly spends time litter picking and looking after the local area. Your community spirit really makes a difference! ❤️

It’s amazing what can be achieved when councillors, residents and volunteers come together to look after our local community. 🌳✨

Thank you to everyone who helped — every bag of rubbish, every w**d removed and every bit of effort makes Bridgewater a better place. 💚

Out and about in Grange Ward, speaking with residents alongside Councillor John Abbott. 👋

It’s been great to hear such a positive response and to chat with residents about the issues that matter to them locally.

We’re also encouraging residents to complete our Residents’ Survey — your views really do help shape the work we do. 📝

And in a wonderful example of community spirit, Cllr Connolly was even presented with a beetroot! 🫜😂

A small but welcome update from around the ward! 👏

I'm glad to report that the overflowing bin on Halton Road, near the bottom of Stonehills Lane, has now been emptied. 🗑️✅

I spotted the mess on my travels around the ward, and while it might seem like a small thing, keeping our streets clean and tidy really does make a difference to people who live here.
