The School of History (UCC), in conjunction with Cork Public Museum and Cork City Council, invites us to The Huguentos Remembered on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th May for an engaging exploration of Huguenot history.

Prof. Ruth Whelan and Dr. Alicia St Leger are both taking part on Sat 16th and there is a walking tour of Cork on Friday 15th.

We have been invited to join The Liberties Weavers Walking Tour, led by renowned historian Liz Gillis, as part of Culture Date with Dublin 8.

Date: Friday 8th May
Time: 10:00am
Meeting Point: Foyer of the Hyatt Centric Hotel, Dean Street, Dublin 8

Step into the rich textile and social history of The Liberties as Liz Gillis guides you through the streets where generations of weavers lived and worked. This engaging tour will bring to life the stories, heritage, and community spirit that shaped one of Dublin’s most historic neighbourhoods.

The tour will conclude at The Liberties Weavers Pop-Up Textile Museum, located in the Deanery Mews, St. Patrick’s Close, Dublin 8.

We will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition and learn more about the craft and legacy of weaving in the area.

A multi award winning project honouring a thousand years of textile and weaving heritage in the Liberties Dublin and breathing life into weaving in its historic centre.

It is devoted to deepening our understanding of the religious reformations of the sixteenth century in all their aspects and relationships to other historical phenomena.

Professor Ruth Whelan (right; Maynooth University) at the special seminar organised in Paris on 7th February 2026 by the Groupe de Recherche en Histoire des protestantismes to mark the publication of her book, Le voyage extraordinaire d'Élie Neau: du forçat pour la foi au catéchiste des esclaves noirs.

Dr Inès Kirschleger (left; Toulon University) gave a magnificent literary analysis of the volume in her role as répondante.
