Frank presented Bernard with the Walker Whale (named after the donor) as an acknowledgement of the 'trauma' caused to him when he was stuck in a lift at the The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Centre. Bernard was preparing the space for the Sports Day for the Disabled to be held the following day. Fortunately all ended well after two hours of confinement!

The Sports Day for the Disabled was enjoyed by competitors and volunteers alike. The Mayor, Barabara Brown, showed her competitive side as she tried a few of the activities (final score we won game each!) and happily presented swimming and special awards. It gave me enormous pleasure to recognise the amazing work done by Mark and Flick Furber over the last forty plus years organising the event by giving them each a Paul Harris Award. The Disabled Sports Association also recognised their efforts by awarding them Life Membership of the Association.

An enjoyable lunchtime meeting was enhanced by the delightful bassoon playing by Poppy today. Currently in her second year of a music degree the club are helping her financially to attend a course to learn how to maintain and repair bassoons - a very complex instrument.
