20 YEARS OF CHANGING LIVES, CREATING OPPORTUNITIES AND OFFERING SECOND CHANCES! 💙

On Sunday 4th October, Futures Unlocked celebrated an incredible milestone – 20 years of supporting people leaving prison and helping them rebuild their lives! 🎉

For two decades, we have been dedicated to supporting individuals as they reintegrate into society, overcome challenges and work towards a brighter, more positive future.

From helping people secure accommodation, access employment and rebuild relationships, to providing emotional support, practical assistance and one-to-one mentoring, our mission has always remained the same: to help people make positive changes, reduce reoffending and recognise that their past does not have to define their future.

Over the years, we have supported countless individuals through some of the most challenging periods of their lives. We have witnessed incredible transformations, celebrated achievements both big and small, and seen first-hand the difference that kindness, encouragement and simply believing in someone can make.

As we celebrate this milestone, we want to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who has been part of our journey. ❤️

We were delighted to welcome the Police and Crime Commissioner to Futures Unlocked to see first-hand the work being delivered through PCC grant funding.

At Futures Unlocked, we work with people leaving prison to help reduce the risk of reoffending. Our support often begins before release, helping individuals prepare for their return to Warwickshire.

The first few days and weeks back in the community can be some of the most challenging, when vulnerability and the risk of reoffending can be at their highest. Our team provides practical, one-to-one support to help people navigate this crucial period and begin rebuilding their lives.

Our trained volunteer mentors then provide ongoing support, working alongside individuals on bespoke plans focused on their own needs and goals. This can include support with accommodation, finances, employment, health and wellbeing, relationships, substance misuse and reconnecting positively with the community.

Ultimately, our aim is to help people build safer, more stable and independent lives while reducing their risk of returning to offending.

We are also expanding our work through Early Intervention, supporting people who may be showing signs of vulnerability or becoming involved with the criminal justice system, with the aim of providing support before problems escalate and further offences occur.

A huge thank you to the PCC for visiting us, taking the time to learn more about our work and supporting the difference we are working to make across Warwickshire.

My Futures Unlocked Journey

Before Futures Unlocked, I was experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety around accommodation, employment and my future. I had low self-esteem, struggled with social anxiety, and felt uncertain about my neurodiversity diagnosis and the direction my life was taking.

Futures Unlocked gave me consistent, face-to-face support and a safe space where I could talk openly and feel listened to without judgement. Through mentoring, I developed my confidence, improved my communication, learned to set realistic goals, and became more willing to challenge myself and step outside my comfort zone.

The support I received has helped me with job searching, CV building, organisation, probation commitments, emotional wellbeing and planning for the future. More importantly, it helped me believe in myself and recognise that I am capable of achieving more than I once thought possible.

I have also been given opportunities I never imagined, including representing Futures Unlocked, sharing my journey with new mentees, and meeting the Warwickshire High Sheriff and Police and Crime Commissioner to advocate for the important work Futures Unlocked does.

I am now looking forward to giving something back and supporting Futures Unlocked in helping others who may have faced similar challenges. My experience has shown me how powerful it can be when someone believes in you, sees your potential, and supports you to believe in yourself.

Futures Unlocked helped me realise that my past does not have to define my future. They have helped me move from feeling lost and uncertain to feeling more confident, motivated and hopeful about what I can achieve. I am proud of how far I have come, and excited about where my journey can take me next.

🧩 EARLY INTERVENTION – SUPPORT BEFORE THINGS ESCALATE

At Futures Unlocked, we believe that sometimes the right support at the right time can prevent someone’s life from heading further into the criminal justice system.

Our Early Intervention work is there for people who may be on the periphery of the criminal justice system — perhaps they haven’t been to court or received a sentence, but things are starting to go in the wrong direction.

Someone may be:

🔹 Struggling with alcohol or drug use
🔹 Experiencing a family or relationship breakdown
🔹 Mixing with the wrong people or falling into negative habits
🔹 Struggling with their mental health or wellbeing
🔹 Having difficulties with housing, finances or employment
🔹 Starting to have contact with the police
🔹 Feeling isolated, lacking direction or simply needing someone positive in their corner

Early intervention is about getting alongside someone before problems become more serious.

Through practical support, mentoring, encouragement and signposting, Futures Unlocked can help people identify what needs to change, set achievable goals and begin moving towards a more stable and positive future.

We work best with people who want to make a change and are willing to engage with the support available.

A wonderful evening representing Futures Unlocked at the High Sheriff of Warwickshire’s Legal Service, held at the beautiful Collegiate Church of St Mary in Warwick.

We were honoured to be invited to attend, with staff, clients, volunteer mentors and trustees from Futures Unlocked coming together for this special occasion.

The service included powerful messages around forgiveness, rehabilitation and the opportunity for people to rebuild their lives — values that strongly resonate with the work we do every day.

At Futures Unlocked, we believe that with the right support, encouragement and opportunities, people can make positive changes, move forward from their past and build a better future.

It was particularly meaningful to share the evening with people from across our organisation — including those we support, the mentors who give their time so generously, our staff team and trustees.

A huge thank you to the High Sheriff of Warwickshire for the invitation and for an inspiring and thought-provoking evening.

You don’t have to walk the whole journey, just walk alongside someone for a couple of hours each week.

Our mentors give their support to one client at a time. They come alongside them, build trust, encourage positive choices, offer encouragement, and help people make a fresh start.
