The Nottingham Society of Model and Experimental Engineers Ltd was founded in 1929 and is one of the longest established societies in the UK. From humble beginnings, its membership is now in excess of 200, whose interests span the many branches of model engineering including: electronics, horticulture, civil engineering and carpentry to name but a few. Our miniature railway track caters for all po
pular gauges, including Gauge 1, 3½”, 5” gauge raised tracks and 7¼” gauge ground level track each complete with tunnels, extensive landscaping, full signalling and easy unloading and loading of engines. Our 7¼” ground level track was extended in 2019 - crossing the service road, travelling through the copse alongside the heritage centre before passing through Parkgate Station next to the site entrance. In addition to the first-rate track facilities, which include covered steaming bays, turntables, inspection pits and two stations, the society also has its own club-house and workshop. The club-house is equipped with audio/visual facilities and forms one end of an extremely impressive workshop facility that caters for the needs of those members who either do not have their own workshop or need access to larger machine tools. Monthly members meetings provide a varied programme of interesting talks from either guest speakers or knowledgeable members. Alongside this there is a full diary of special events, such as our Narrow Gauge and Invitation Days, which provide opportunities for like minded folk to join us in the enjoyment of the facilities. We welcome new members with one of the most important benefits of joining the club being that it brings you into contact with people having similar interests. It is always possible to contact someone with prior or perhaps greater experience of a particular subject who can help you solve a problem or achieve a goal. Most members are happy to engage in discussions with like-minded people such as through our monthly members' email "Track Rod End" or our quarterly magazine "King Pin". There is also the pleasure and satisfaction to be gained from joining in and passing on your own knowledge and experience to others. We generally run to the public on Sundays 11:00 - 16:00 Easter to October (weather and volunteers dependent). Tickets cost only £1, so why not have a ride?
