SG8 6PT (registered not postal address) "Herstory" In The Making! We aim to:

1.

Anukampa Bhikkhuni Project was founded by Ven Canda in 2016 at the request of her teacher Ajahn Brahm, who serves as Spiritual Adviser. Anukampa means the wise compassion that alleviates suffering and its cause, and was the quality that motivated the Buddha to teach. Promote the teachings and practices of Early Buddhism, leading to full Awakening.

2. Establish the first "Forest Monastery" in Eng

land where women can train towards full (bhikkhuni) ordination! We are raising enthusiasm and funds for this project by organising retreats, talks and discussion groups, that present the Buddha's teachings in an authentic, relevant and accessible way. Anukampa is committed to inclusivity by welcoming everyone, including LGBTQIA+ people and those of every ethnicity, race and background, both to our events and as guests. Get involved with our friendly community to deepen your practice and help make our vision a reality! For information about our online and live teachings and events, please visit www.anukampaproject.org/events

“What should be done for his disciples out of compassion (anukampa) by a teacher who seeks their welfare and has compassion for them, that I have done for you, bhikkhus. There are these roots of trees, these empty huts. Meditate, bhikkhus, do not delay or else you will regret it later. This is our instruction to you.”—The Buddha MN19, Dvedhāvitakkasutta.

Italian Alps for Enlightenment? Retreat with Ajahn Canda, 22nd-28th February, 2027 at the Sanctuary of Graglia, Biella, Italy.

Book early for a special week-long winter retreat in the Italian Alps: "Seven Steps to Enlightenment: A Deep Dive into the Bojjaṅghās"

Early next year there is a special retreat in a very special part of the world. Biella is sacred place with a spectacular view of Monviso and located on a pilgrimage route. Surrounded by woods and inspiring nature, it provides the perfect environment for deep meditation practice. The retreat is open to all and will accommodate a maximum of 45 people. Registration is already open here: https://progettopienessere.org/ritiri-eventi/ritiro-di-vipassana-con-venerabile-canda/

This six-day retreat explores the Seven Factors of Enlightenment (bojjhaṅgā) as a clear and practical framework for understanding and deepening our meditation practice, regardless of the method we practice. The Buddha likens these seven inner qualities to the most valuable treasures in the world: mindfulness, exploration of the Dhamma, energy, joy, tranquility, stillness (samādhi) and equanimity. With no need for willpower or force, they unfold naturally when certain conditions are in place.

Founded on virtue (sīla) and sense restraint, the Enlightenment Factors serve both as a path and a measure of progress. When they are present and developing, they indicate that practice is moving in a skillful direction; when they are weak or absent, they point to areas that need adjustment and care. These factors also work directly against the five hindrances of sensual desire, ill will, dullness, restlessness and doubt, gradually weakening and replacing them. As the hindrances fade, the bojjhaṅgā strengthen and our confidence in the Buddha's path increases.

Each day of the retreat will focus on one or more of these factors ~ what they are, how they arise and how they support the development of the next. There will also be numerous fun and practical tips for troubleshooting obstacles and truly enjoying our meditation! Join us to experience the Enlightenment Factors unfold, leading naturally to liberation.

"Accepting the Unacceptable"
This talk explores how to accept the reality of what feels unacceptable without losing ourselves to despair, numbness, or division.
Mon 11 May | 7.00-8.30pm AEST (10-11.30am BST)

Location: Online (Zoom link below)

Cost: Dana-based

We are living through times that can feel impossible to fully face ~ escalating climate disruption, deep political fractures and an intense undercurrent of uncertainty. The instinct is often to shut down or harden into anger. But what if the path forward asks something different of us?

This talk explores how to accept the reality of what feels unacceptable without losing ourselves to despair, numbness, or division. It offers a grounded approach to working with grief and fear ~ acknowledging them as natural, necessary responses rather than weaknesses to suppress. We’ll examine how rest, reflection and care are not forms of escape, but essential practices that restore our capacity to respond with wisdom and courage.

Together, we’ll consider how to choose where to place our energy in a world full of urgent needs and act with purpose without being consumed by overwhelm. This is not a call to be endlessly resilient, but an invitation to be human: to move between engagement and rest, clarity and confusion, hope and grief ~ while continuing to choose a path of compassionate, courageous action.

🪷 About the Speaker: Venerable Canda first encountered the Dhamma in India in 1996 and went on to meditate and serve on numerous Vipassana retreats, before ordaining in Myanmar in 2006. In 2014, she moved to Australia where she received full bhikkhunī ordination under the guidance of her teacher Ajahn Brahm.

Ven. Canda teaches widely and spends several months each year on silent retreat. Her teachings draw deeply from the Early Buddhist texts and emphasise loving-kindness and letting go as essential supports for developing samādhi (stillness) and the liberating wisdom that follows.
