Congratulations to Maxwell Nyimbili, an Our Moon alumni from the 2021–2022 Young Leaders Programme, on graduating from Ashesi University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

Maxwell’s journey is a reflection of resilience, leadership, and purpose. From his time in the Our Moon community to his academic journey at Ashesi University, he has continued to demonstrate the power of determination and intentional learning. Throughout his university experience, Maxwell has built strong skills in technology and innovation, particularly in full-stack web development, while continuously challenging himself to grow both professionally and personally. His achievement stands as a reminder that, with opportunity, discipline, and commitment, young people can create meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.

In Maxwell’s own words:

“Special recognition will definitely have to go to Our Moon, the Mastercard Foundation, and Ashesi University. The trio made acquiring the degree possible.”

To everyone in the Our Moon community and beyond, Maxwell shares this timeless reminder:

“If you can meet Triumph and Disaster
and treat those two impostors just the same;
yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
and, which is more, you’ll be a Man, my son!”
— Rudyard Kipling

Congratulations once again, Maxwell. We are incredibly proud of your achievement and excited to witness the impact you will continue to make in your next chapter. Your story continues to inspire many young leaders.

This past Sunday, Our Moon second-years and some alumni came together for a reflective gathering.

The space was filled with shared experiences, growth, and connection. Alumni shared their journeys beyond the programme, and second-years reflected on their own paths through their internships, new opportunities, and personal development.

Even though the cohorts were on the programme at different times, there was a strong sense of community and purpose.

Second-year, Ireen Ngango, said:

“…I had the opportunity to listen to my senior alumni share their stories, their paths, their uncertainties, and how they’ve navigated life beyond what we all once knew. Even though we were at Our Moon at different times, there’s a shared understanding between us — a recognition of how much we’ve grown, and a collective desire to keep pushing forward and give back to our communities in powerful ways.

With my fellow second-years, the meet-up felt just as grounding. Hearing about the different roles everyone is stepping into through their internships, the exposure they’ve gained, and the doors slowly opening reminded me that growth is happening, even when it doesn’t always feel loud.”
