Friends of the Earth Tunbridge Wells We aim to raise awareness of climate change impacts and campaign on environmental issues in the local area and beyond with our network of friendly volunteers.

We have been active in Tunbridge Wells since 2005, working on a wide variety of campaigns. We are a committed team who meet regularly (mostly online these days, but outdoors when allowed and weather is nice) and work on both national and local campaigns. We work closely with Tunbridge Wells councillors to implement climate action targets and liaise with local businesses and other volunteer groups too. We have had regular stalls on our various campaigns in town, though that has been more difficult to do now with Covid-19. If you live locally and would like to get involved, please do get in touch on [email protected]. Everyone welcome. We look forward to hearing from you. Did you know October 21st is Apple Day?!

Apples are a firm favourite in all forms - juice, fresh, cake, crumble, jam, c***r!

Kent has been famous for Apple growing for hundreds of years and still has lots of beautiful orchards and PYO spots.

Why not celebrate the humble apple by going picking this weekend? Or whipping up a delicious dessert? 🍎🍏

Top tip: avoid food waste by leaving peels on when cooking, or turn the peel into crispy apple chips!

Friday was National Reuse Day 2026: a happy reminder that Reuse comes before recycle for so many things we use everyday!

When we reuse more, we waste less which is great news for people, purse and planet.

Even if you can't reuse, perhaps someone else could?

Today is World Rivers Day 2026 🏞️

World Rivers Day is a celebration of the world’s waterways. It highlights the many values of rivers and strives to increase public awareness and encourages the improved stewardship of rivers around the world

We are lucky enough to have many beautiful rivers in and around Tunbridge Wells, which we would like to enjoy for many years to come ☀️

Second Hand September is back!

For the next 30 days, why not try buying as little new items as possible to take action against fast fashion and consumerist culture!

Charity shops nowadays have a massive variety of clothes for all seasons, as well as lovely selections of homeware! It’s so easy to buy beautiful gifts, fashionable outfits and stylish homeware all second hand. You could say it’s actually more fun too!

On top of this, for the month of September Oxfam are giving away free crochet kits to inspire people to think about fashion differently.
