We try to include some sort of craft activity every week, even if it is “just” colouring-in. But there is no “just” about it - it hones fine motor skills, encourages the girls to be creative with colour and to share (some colours are always in short supply!) - and, importantly, our Rainbows love it!
This week, these two were really excited to show me that they’d chosen the same egg pictures to colour-in and used the same colour scheme.
Easter egg twins!

The 300 crocus bulbs that the girls planted back in October are in full bloom and are adding a glorious bit of colour to the entrance of the village hall. It’s lovely to think that the girls will see them every year and be able to say “I did that”.

Last week we made binoculars for RSPB’s Big Garden Bird Watch and the girls were very excited to tell us about the lovely birds they saw at the weekend.
This week we turned our minds to non-living beings - making these awesome stick-pin robot puppets and playing games to get the girls thinking about the simple, clear instructions you’d need to give a robot.

Earlier this month, at our last meeting of term, we gave out an amazing 145 badges to our wonderful Rainbows, including 15 Guiding for Good badges for local community work (planting bulbs outside our hall), plus lots of amazing badges from the Girlguiding programme, including 24 Theme Awards, 22 Skill Builders, 7 Bronze, 4 Silver and 2 Gold Awards!
We are immensely proud of our girls and all they have achieved (and are grateful to their parents/ grandparents for sewing on all those badges 😉) and hope they have a wonderful Christmas break.

Bidborough Rainbows planted 300 crocus bulbs outside our meeting place this week, as part of our region’s Guiding for Good initiative. We are very grateful to all the parents who contributed to our bulb fund and look forward to seeing a glorious splash of colour next spring.

How lovely to see our village’s three Girlguiding units represented at the flower festival as part of last weekend’s Bidborough Bonanza. The theme of the flower festival was Bidborough’s clubs and societies, of which Rainbows, Brownies and Guides (for girls aged 4-14) are a vibrant part.
The flowers will be on display until tomorrow, 9th September.

Happy Birthday to us! 1st Bidborough Rainbows is 14 years old today!
Although Rainbows (the youngest section of Girlguiding UK) was launched in 1987, Bidborough didn’t have a Rainbows unit until Angela and Dee started one in 2011. Elizabeth and Anne (aka Mouse and Hedgehog) took over in 2016.
Our unit continues to thrive - the girls love it, the leaders and volunteers love it - happy days!

Twelve great new interest badges have been launched today that our Rainbows can complete at home - we can’t wait to find out the fun activities that our girls need to do to earn them!

Which one(s) would you like to earn?

On Saturday, we joined over 6,000 girlguides from around London and the south-east for a day of May-hem at the South of England Showground in Ardingly! It was an unforgettable day filled with fun and sunshine - the girls absolutely loved it and we all slept well in our beds that night - tired but happy.

Girlguiding is an amazing worldwide movement, connecting millions of girls across the globe. Every year on 22 February we take time to reflect on and celebrate our fantastic community.
Our Rainbows are still very young, but we hope that at least some of them will get opportunities to meet Girlguides from other countries as they continue their Girlguiding journey.
Happy World Thinking Day!
