A reminder that the final film presentation of our 2025/26 season, this Sunday (22nd March), is "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", a 2000 comedy/drama musical film written and directed by cult favourites the Coen Brothers, and starring George Clooney and John Turturro. It also has a fantastic Grammy-winning country/folk music soundtrack by T Bone Burnett. Coincidentally, this is the second "chain gang" film of the season, but it's very different from "Cool Hand Luke"!

Come along for a night at the cinema this Sunday, 22nd March, doors open 7pm for a 7:30 start. Non-members very welcome, price £8 (cards and cash both accepted).

If you would like to be added to our emailing list, to be kept informed about our 2026-27 season later in the year, send us an email at [email protected].

Come along for a night at the cinema on Sunday 8th March, doors open 7pm for a 7:30 start. Non-members very welcome, price £8 (cards and cash both accepted).

Just a reminder that the Film Club is showing this lovely Wim Wenders film on Sunday, 22nd February. Doors 7pm for 7:30 start. Non-members welcome, £8 admission.

Our next film presentation, on 22nd February, is "Perfect Days", a 2023 Japanese/German co-production, directed by the terrific Wim Wenders. The film is in Japanese; it's the lovely slow-burn tale of a Tokyo public toilet cleaner who finds a quiet joy in the world around him. It won two awards at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, and was nominated as Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards.

Many thanks to everyone who came along and supported tonight’s Bute Film Club, for the screening of Whisky Galore, and the chat/Q&A session which followed, with the island’s own Maureen Beattie and with Sean Biggerstaff, who starred in the film. Our thanks to Maureen and Sean, and also to the cinema’s Hazel and Heather, who helped the event run smoothly.

Our next presentation: On Sunday 8th February we will be showing the 2016 adaptation of Compton Mackenzie's classic novel Whisky Galore (some say this film sticks closer to the novel than did the earlier film). We are fortunate to be also presenting, immediately following the screening, one of the film's stars, Sean Biggerstaff, in conversation with the cinema's own Maureen Beattie. This will include an audience Q&A, and will last around 30-40 minutes. Doors will open at 7pm, and the film will start at 7:30pm.

This is a great opportunity to hear from Sean, one of the main actors in Whisky Galore. His on-screen career began at the age of 13, with a role in the acclaimed 1996 BBC adaptation of Iain Banks's equally acclaimed novel, The Crow Road. However Sean's best-known role was as Gryffindor Quidditch captain Oliver Wood in three of the Harry Potter movies.

For this special Film Club evening, non-member entry will be by advance ticket only, available now from Print Point, priced at £8 per ticket (note: cash only!). Note that seating is, as usual, unreserved.

Please note that Film Club members will NOT require tickets. If you are a Film Club member, simply come along with your membership card exactly as usual. We will be restricting the number of tickets available so that all Film Club members will be assured of a seat.
