Rotherham Cancer Advocacy Service

Rotherham Cancer Advocacy Service One to one support for people affected by cancer in Rotherham. Funded by SYICB. Supported by Macmillan Rotherham Cancer Advocacy Service

Who are we ?

Citizens Advice Rotherham Cancer Advocacy Service (RCAS) and was launched in 2018, originally funded by Macmillan. The service is now funded by CCG and continues to help people affected with cancer by providing one to one advocacy support enabling them to live with and beyond their cancer. This is a volunteer led service which is free, impartial, independent, confidential and open to anyone affect

ed by cancer. RCAS is open to all tumour sites where the cancer nurses at Rotherham Hospital can refer patients and is open to self referral. What do we offer ? The service is currently running by telephone or video calls only and is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. An advocate can act on your behalf with your consent by making appropriate referrals and by contacting relevant services to ensure you are receiving what you are entitled to. The service also makes sure that your voice is being heard by attending meetings alongside you. What can Advocates do? Being diagnosed with cancer is a shock and we understand that could leave you feeling overwhelmed, worried about what happens next or thinking about the impact on your life. Having someone to talk to, who can provide the right information and support at a time when they need it, can make a huge difference. An Advocate can help by -
- Listening and giving you time to talk about your worries and concerts
-Supporting you to find and access the services or information you need
-Empowering you to make your own decisions
We can also accompany you to meetings and appointments. Once you are assigned an Advocate, you will stay with them to ensure you have a friendly and familiar voice each time. How to contact us

Great feedback for the screening team. Don't ignore your invitation, they are there to help you

Here is a compliment for the Breast Clinic team:

“I attended for a breast screening at Rotherham Hospital. I wanted to express my thanks and gratitude to the team.

“My screening was done by a nurse who made me feel very comfortable from the outset. She was extremely friendly explained everything she was doing and ensured that I was okay and not in pain.

“What can be a very uncomfortable and somewhat embarrassing experience she made me feel comfortable and not be fearful or anxious about having a breast screening in future.”

If you would like to share your feedback with us, we'd love to hear it. More information about the best way to do this can be available on our website:
