Labour MP Jo Cox was killed on this day in 2016 – just a week before the EU referendum.

After a career working with charities like Oxfam and Save the Children, Cox was elected the MP for Batley and Spen in 2015. In her maiden speech she argued that "We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.”

On the 16th of June, 2016, she was shot and stabbed outside her constituency surgery by a white supremacist shouting ‘Britain first!’

Cox was a victim of the extremist hatred that has fermented in British society for too long. But today, we’re celebrating her legacy of unity over division, of hope over hate.

✊ Wakefield District UNISON at Orgreave Anniversary March✊

Today, Wakefield District UNISON stood proudly at the Orgreave Anniversary March and Rally in Sheffield, with banners held high in support of truth and justice for the miners brutalised at Orgreave in 1984.

42 years on, we remember the courage of those who stood firm during the Miners’ Strike and continue the fight to ensure the truth is finally told.

Solidarity then, solidarity now. ✊

Last week UNISON Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Branch Executive Committee unanimously backed a motion calling on RMBC to increase mileage rates in line with the latest recommendations and undertake a full review of its mileage policy.

Our members should not be out of pocket for using their own vehicles to deliver vital public services.

We have formally asked the Council to review the current arrangements urgently.

🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🌈

This Pride Month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, recognise the progress that has been made, and reaffirm our commitment to equality, dignity and respect for all.

At Unison, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, valued and included at work and in society. Pride is not only a celebration of identity and diversity but also a reminder of the ongoing fight against discrimination and inequality.

We stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ workers and communities, championing workplaces where everyone can be themselves without fear or prejudice.

Together, we continue to campaign for fairness, inclusion and equal rights for all.

Happy Pride Month from everyone at Unison! 🏳️‍🌈

This weekend we are at the DoubleTree by Hilton Leeds to get stuck into Officer training and awards.

Training weekends are an important opportunity to strengthen our knowledge, develop new skills, and continue building the support we provide for members in the workplace.

A special well done to the man who wears many hats- Disability Officer, Health and Safety Officer, & Regional Chair for black members SOG Abdul Rashid for winning Equality & Inclusion Champion 🙏🏼
