Good Fish Guide

Good Fish Guide The Good Fish Guide is your simple guide to which seafood is the most sustainable, based on which species it is, where it’s been caught or farmed, and how.

Use our simple traffic light system to find sustainable seafood choices. We use the best scientific advice available to create our traffic light system of ratings so you know what the Best Choices are, and which Fish to Avoid. We have a strict process for creating our sustainability ratings, so that we can be consistent, credible, and transparent. Wild-caught seafood ratings are based on the healt

h of the population being fished, how well fishing is being controlled, and what the effects are on the wider environment and other species. This includes bycatch, impacts on the seabed, and whether there are any concerns about illegal or unregulated fishing. Farmed seafood ratings are based on the sustainability of the fish feed being used, the welfare being employed, how well aquaculture is being controlled, and what the impacts are on the wider environment. Many of our ratings are updated every year, and we aim to update all of them at least once every three years. They’re reviewed by scientists, fishers and businesses so we can use all the available information before they are published or updated.
