It’s a long one - please read to the end!
People see Hub as a family or community that’s almost always able to help them overcome problems and receive support from peers as well as volunteers and support workers.
One oft-overlooked aspect of Hub is that we are a safe space for those who don’t normally meet up with others, who cannot afford to socialise in mainstream cafes or pubs or don’t feel comfortable doing so, and while this will always be the case, we are continually developing new services and support.
From September, the Citizens Advice Bureau are providing a regular advisor for our clients (made possible by Ross-on-Wye Town Council). We also offer basic cookery lessons, these will concentrate on the skills required to cook simple meals at home, and will cover budgeting, food preparation and keeping safe in the kitchen. We have also received funding, again from Ross-on-Wye Town Council, to support our clients with counselling sessions from Marches Counselling Service.
Hub is the first and only support facility of it’s kind in Ross, it is well-known in the wider community and we know many new people are signposted to us by kind local residents. But the most effective outreach is from our community of people who promote Hub to those in similar circumstances: word-of-mouth works extremely well. Because our space is informal and welcoming, first-timers can come along, have a free coffee, play pool, chat, all without feeling they are going into ‘an agency’ which will view them as potential clients, rather than as people with their own strengths as well as challenges and issues.
However, to enable us to continue to carry out this vital and essential work in Ross-on-Wye, we need your help. We are seeking the generous support of individuals and organisations who care deeply about the well-being and growth of our community. Every contribution directly supports our neighbours and strengthens the bonds that hold our community together.
We would be very grateful if you could contribute to our cause. Donations can be made by standing order or bank transfer to Metro Bank, sort code 23-05-80, account number 53715407, or via PayPal to https://paypal.me/atthehub
