Romsey Foodbank

Romsey Foodbank Emergency food for local people in crisis In Romsey today there are families and individuals struggling to put food on the table.

For many people a sudden crisis, redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill – can mean going hungry. The number of people in our area requiring emergency food provision has increased in recent years as well as nationally. Romsey Foodbank provides emergency food and support for local people in crisis. All food is donated by the public and is non-perishable and in-date. Food is then sorted

by volunteers. Frontline care professionals such as doctors and social workers identify people in crisis and can issue a food voucher. Clients receive three days of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food in exchange for their food voucher. The Romsey Foodbank was created because we think it is important that local people provide for the needs of their local community: for almost 10 years the Andover Foodbank has provided food for those in need in Romsey. How a Foodbank works
==================
1. Non-perishable food is donated by the public, maybe at a supermarket collection, harvest festival or drop off point across the town.
2. Volunteers collect the food and sort it at the warehouse.
3. Frontline care professionals, including Health Visitors, Social Workers, Connexions staff, CAB advisors, and many other organisations, give foodbank vouchers to people in crisis who they are working with.
4. Foodbank vouchers are then exchanged for 5-7 days of food at the foodbank distribution centre.
5. Foodbank takes time to listen and signpost clients to further support. How to donate food:
================
Our shopping list of the items currently needed most is posted from time to time on this page and on our website. As well as the collections that various schools, churches and other organisations make, you can bring donations to collection points at Waitrose and The Abbey. If you are part of a school, church, community group or company and would like to organise a food collection on our behalf please contact the Romsey foodbank manager by email ([email protected]) or by phoning 07761 405870

Romsey Foodbank is part of the work of Freedom Church Romsey. As an organisation we are committed to the safeguarding of children and adults with care and support needs and to ensuring their well-being 🫶

Sunday 16th November is a national day to raise awareness of the importance of safeguarding. We will be reminding people of those who are responsible in our church and how you can refer any concerns.

Sim Dendy is our SG lead, Ben Tanton is deputy,  Catherine Adomah is our SG administrator & Amanda Jones is our Trustee responsible for safeguarding.  All can be approached in person or by writing with concerns.

Our church is affiliated with a Christian charity called 31:8 who get their name from this verse in proverbs “Speak out on behalf of the voiceless, and for the rights of all who are vulnerable”.

They aspire to:
- Equip society with the skills to create safer environments
- To empower society to respond appropriately to those who are vulnerable, or who have experienced abuse
- To encourage society to stand against oppression and exploitation by informing legislation, and striving to raise the standards of safeguarding practice

If you have any questions or concerns please get in touch.

Worrying about money isn't just numbers. It's the sleepless nights, stress and emotional toll that comes with facing hardship.

Over HALF of people turning to food banks are struggling with a mental health problem.

It's not right. We look forward to a day where everyone can afford the essentials they need to survive, thrive and live with dignity 💚
