For many people a sudden crisis, redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill – can mean going hungry. The number of people in our area requiring emergency food provision has increased in recent years as well as nationally. Romsey Foodbank provides emergency food and support for local people in crisis. All food is donated by the public and is non-perishable and in-date. Food is then sorted
by volunteers. Frontline care professionals such as doctors and social workers identify people in crisis and can issue a food voucher. Clients receive three days of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food in exchange for their food voucher. The Romsey Foodbank was created because we think it is important that local people provide for the needs of their local community: for almost 10 years the Andover Foodbank has provided food for those in need in Romsey. How a Foodbank works
==================
1. Non-perishable food is donated by the public, maybe at a supermarket collection, harvest festival or drop off point across the town.
2. Volunteers collect the food and sort it at the warehouse.
3. Frontline care professionals, including Health Visitors, Social Workers, Connexions staff, CAB advisors, and many other organisations, give foodbank vouchers to people in crisis who they are working with.
4. Foodbank vouchers are then exchanged for 5-7 days of food at the foodbank distribution centre.
5. Foodbank takes time to listen and signpost clients to further support. How to donate food:
