I’ve had a little fun with this week’s post and we’re going to tackle some common misconceptions about yoga… 👀🧘♀️
🌿 PARK YOGA ROMSEY: 5 YOGA MYTHS BUSTED! 🌿
Over the years I’ve heard lots of reasons why people think yoga isn’t for them. Let’s bust a few myths… 💥
❌ Myth #1: “I need to be flexible before I start yoga.”
✅ Reality: Yoga is how many people BECOME more flexible. Nobody expects you to be flexible on day one. You don’t get fit before joining a gym, and you don’t need to touch your toes before coming to yoga!
❌ Myth #2: “I don’t look like a yogi.”
✅ Reality: There is no such thing as a yoga look. You don’t need expensive leggings, mala beads, matching outfits or an Instagram-worthy handstand. At Park Yoga you’ll find people of all ages, shapes, sizes and backgrounds. Come in whatever feels comfortable.
❌ Myth #3: “Yoga is just stretching.”
✅ Reality: Yes, we stretch—but we also build strength, balance, mobility, coordination and body awareness. Add in breathwork, relaxation and mindfulness, and yoga becomes so much more than stretching.
❌ Myth #4: “You have to be into crystals, incense and woo-woo magic.”
✅ Reality: Not at all. Yoga is part of a wonderful spiritual tradition originating from India. Some people enjoy the spiritual side of yoga, others simply come for movement, better mobility, stress relief or time outdoors. You’re welcome however you choose to approach the practice.
❌ Myth #5: “I need to get fitter before I try yoga.”
✅ Reality: Yoga meets you where you are. Whether you’re active, returning to exercise after a break, managing an injury, living with a health condition, or simply feeling out of practice, yoga can be adapted to support you. As someone who lives with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), I know that movement isn’t always straightforward. Yoga has taught me how to listen to my body, adapt when needed, and appreciate what my body can do rather than focusing on what it can’t.
So if you’ve been thinking about joining us but one of these myths has been holding you back, consider this your invitation. 💚
Yoga is for every body.
