1196 Bredbury, Romiley & Marple Squadron - Royal Air Force Air Cadets 1196 (Bredbury, Romiley & Marple) Squadron RAFAC page The ATC has almost 41,000 members, aged between 13 to 20 years, within 966 Squadrons.

The Air Training Corps (ATC), commonly known as the Air Cadets, is a cadet organisation based in the United Kingdom. It is a voluntary youth group which is part of the Air Cadet Organisation and the Royal Air Force (RAF). It is supported by the Ministry of Defence, with a Full Time Reserve RAF Officer, currently Air Commodore Dawn Mccafferty, serving as Commandant Air Cadets. The cadets and the ma

jority of staff are civilians and, although a number of its members do go on to join the RAF or other services, the ATC is not set up as a recruiting organisation. The enrolment age for the Air Training Corps is Currently 13 years, but you are eligible to join if you are in year 8. Its cadets are supported by a network of around 10,000 volunteer staff and around 5,000 civilian committee members.

Congratulations Pilot Officer Travis, after spending the last week at RAF Cranwell where he has passed the Combined Initial Course (CIC), being awarded the Top Student.

CIC is a course that all uniform CFAVs have to complete within 1 year of passing their board, which covers and challenges individuals on safeguarding, leadership, drill and everything else needed for Plt Off Travis to teach and support our cadets.

Last Monday evening we welcomed Yorkshire University Air Squadron to the unit where they discussed with the cadets some of the amazing opportunities the UAS can offer - from solo flying, leadership training, ski trips and more.

The cadets had a look into the 3 year long career of our guest speaker through photos, showing not only the amazing experiences but also the close friendships and bonds made.

A big thank you to Hannah from Yorkshire UAS for her insight and time to come down to the unit. We wish her the best of luck as she sets off on her medical career after just graduating.

Catching up on our cadets achievements.

Over the last few months our cadets have been busy participating in a range of activities, and over the last month saw them receive their badges for their accomplishments.

Congratulations to Cdt Garlick A, Cdt Klosowski and Cdt Goude for achieving their blue essential first aid.

A huge well done to Cdt Garlick A, Cdt Klosowski and Cdt Shaw on completing their first class syllabus, passing out and officially getting enrolled into the squadron.

Congratulations to Cdt Threlfall, who received his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh badge after completing it off squadron!

Not everyone has been earning badges on the ground this year, some have been busy getting their blue wings, after completing ground school, 17 cadets got to go flying or gliding. Congrats all!
