๐ Geetu from Awaken Pilates is offering a pilates programme to support bereaved mums.
๐ Geetu said โIt is a safe, loss-sensitive space where bereaved mothers can move gently together, strengthen their bodies and feel understood without having to talk, should they choose not to. But equally, if they want to speak about their babies, this is a space where that is welcomed. In the outside world, there can be a strange "otherness" to baby loss, where our pain can feel uncomfortable for others to acknowledge.โ
๐ Geetu explained why she started this and said โIn 2022, when we found out we were pregnant, we learned early on that we were expecting twins. At ten weeks, we sadly lost one of our babies, and that hit hard. But when Mia passed away at nearly 30 weeks, the world started to spin on a completely new axis. Nothing would ever be the same again.โ
๐ The family donated an Abi Cooling Cot in memory of Mia in 2023. Geetu said โThanks to the Abi Cot, we were able to spend four precious days with Mia. It was both euphoric and earth-shattering at the same time. Yet those four days remain the most precious of my life, because we got to be a family with her. We held her, kissed her, made memories and simply got to be her mum and dad earthside. What I remember is her perfect face.โ
๐ Geetu said โI have dedicated myself to supporting other bereaved parents in any way I can. In the months after Mia died, I found myself postnatal and deeply isolated. I longed for community and for a safe form of postnatal exercise that understood loss and all that comes with it. Nothing like that existed, so I trained to become a Reformer Pilates instructor, with the hope of helping others navigate pain, connect with their bodies, their babies, and the wider loss community, and find support both physically and emotionally. I run the programme I wish had existed when I needed it most.โ
๐ With Mia in our hearts.
