For residents in Milkstone and Deeplish Ward

📢 BIN COLLECTION UPDATE (24–26 June 2026)

Due to the hot weather, our bin crews will be starting their rounds earlier than usual this week. 🌡️

Please help us empty your bins, by:

👉Putting your bins out the night before
👉Placing your bins at the kerbside (or your usual collection point)
👉Ensuring the bin handles are facing the road

This temporary change allows our crews to work during the cooler parts of the day and helps reduce the risks associated with high temperatures.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Information on when your bins will be collected, how to request a new bin, recycling centres and more.

The sickening terrorist attack targeting Muslims in Edinburgh, which reportedly began outside a mosque and led to a man roaming the streets armed with a knife, has understandably caused fear and alarm within the local Muslim community. A 36-year-old man has been arrested and the incident is now being investigated by counter-terrorism police.

Any attack motivated by hatred towards a community must be treated with the utmost seriousness. Muslims deserve the same protection, solidarity and public support afforded to any other community targeted by extremism and violence.

We should be hearing clear condemnation of anti-Muslim hatred, robust action from government and law enforcement, and a united message that racism and religious hatred have no place in our society.

Too often, however, incidents affecting Muslims fail to receive the same level of attention, outrage or political response. That disparity raises serious questions about how anti-Muslim hatred is understood, reported and addressed.

We must ensure that all forms of terrorism, racism and extremism are confronted consistently, regardless of who the victims are.

I expect a Cobra meeting, solidarity with Muslims and condemnation of the racist rhetoric against Muslims.

But in reality most will ignore this attack, politicians and the media will blame Muslims for it and life will go on.

This is two tier old policing in action.

Poisonous anti-migrant rhetoric has consequences.

Read my latest Chair’s column as Chair of the PCS Union Black Members Committee where I reflect on the murder of Henry Novak and Stephen Ogilvie and the subsequent attacks against Ethnic minorities.

In his latest chair’s column, Mohammed argues that the recent riots in Belfast and Glasgow serve as a reminder that racism remains endemic in the UK.

I am deeply disappointed and angry at the BBC’s decision to axe The World Tonight on BBC Radio 4.

This is a hugely respected programme that has, for decades, provided thoughtful analysis, in-depth reporting and serious journalism on the issues shaping our world. The loss of such a trusted voice will leave listeners poorer and diminish the quality of public service broadcasting.

I have many fond memories of appearing on the programme over the years and know first-hand the important role it plays in informing public debate.

The BBC should think again and reverse this decision. The World Tonight deserves to remain on our airwaves.
