A heartfelt thank you to Deeplish Community Centre for providing their minibus to the OLD LAGS network .

OLD LAGS supports people rebuilding their lives after prison. Many return to the community with very little support, while overstretched probation services struggle to meet their needs. OLD LAGS offers a vital lifeline from the moment they leave prison, helping them find support, stability and a way forward.

Jamie Dale runs this as a one-man band. If you can provide food parcels or anything else you think maybe helpful by ways of collaboration and support, please reach out to them,

Rehabilitation requires a community. Funding for grassroots projects remains a constant struggle, but collaboration like this shows what becomes possible when organisations share resources and stand together.

The Salik Project UK will support OLD LAGS however we can. Everyone deserves a meaningful chance to rebuild their life—and the support to make that chance count.

Another proud moment for Angie's Angels. Someone give these guys an OBE already!

But seriously, Angie's Angels has been such lifeline to so many Rochdalians and beyond who have fallen on hard times.

Please support their new community cafe. pop in for a coffee and some good chatter.

The OLD LAGS network was established by Jamie Dale. He's really running this great initiative as a one man band.

If we want to keep people out of prison, we need to ensure that individuals have the chance to rehabilitate in the community. That's why orgnisations as OLD LAGS network are extremely important.

Take a look at the work they do, reach and please support them in whatever way you are able

A big thank you to Hannah Spencer for Gorton and Denton for inviting The Salik Project UK in today to listen and learn more about our work within ethnic minority communities.

We shared findings from our community focus groups and discussed the Government’s ACMD report, the need for greater grassroots funding and empowerment of local communities, and the importance of culturally sensitive recovery pathways that recognise the real barriers people can face when seeking support.

We really appreciated the opportunity to have an open conversation and share what communities themselves have been telling us.

Let’s be honest about cannabis.

It’s been part of British South Asian youth culture for decades. But the cannabis being smoked today is often much stronger than it used to be.

Higher-THC cannabis is linked with greater risks of paranoia, anxiety and psychosis, particularly with frequent use.

We’re not here to judge. We know from speaking to cannabis smokers — and from our own lived experience — how difficult giving up can be.

Just take a moment to think about what it might be costing you: your mental health, your relationships, your family and your pocket.

No lectures. No stigma.

It’s time for an honest conversation about cannabis.

If you don’t acknowledge the problem, you’ll never explore solutions.
