Rochdale Dog Rescue Rescuing Dogs, Registered Charity No: 1162047 Dogs come in all shapes and sizes, ages and breeds. The only certainty for these dogs is that they need our help!

We exist to help unwanted or abandoned/stray dogs to find safety where they can be assessed and receive any necessary attention before rehoming. Some dogs are abandoned pets that once belonged to somebody, some are strays and some are simply no longer able to be cared for.

💙🐾 BARNEY UPDATE: JUST A LOVELY BOY WAITING FOR HIS CHANCE! 🐾💙

Oh, Barney! Look at you finding your feet ❤️

Aunty Wendy took our handsome boy out for another lovely walk recently, and we have the sweetest update to share.

Barney is becoming more confident with every outing. This time, there was no turning back to check what was happening behind him — he simply got on with enjoying his walk 🥰

He's walking nicely on his lead, stopping for little sniff breaks along the way, and was completely unfazed when several dogs ran past. He's lovely with both people and other dogs, and even walked beautifully along a country road, staying close by Wendy's side. 💙

And then came the water!

Barney spotted another dog having a lovely time playing in the water. His ears pricked up, and he was very interested, so Wendy took him somewhere quieter to see if he'd fancy a little paddle.

Barney's response?

"I'll just stand here and have a think about that, thanks!" 🤣😂

Bless him! No paddling for Barney that day. He was perfectly happy just having a look.

Wendy described him as a gentle, easy-going boy and an absolute pleasure to walk. And the more we hear about him, the more we fall in love with this lovely lad. ❤️

💔 But do you know what's heartbreaking? Barney is still waiting for a home, and we've had so little interest in him.

He's only three years old. He's gentle, he's making lovely progress, and he's showing us more of his personality with every walk.

He doesn't need someone to rush him or expect him to be confident about everything straight away. He needs someone patient and kind, who'll give him time to settle, build his trust and enjoy all those little moments that make life with a dog so special. 🏡💙

🌞 Sunday Smiles with RDR 🌞

Welcome to Sunday Smiles with RDR – our weekly feel-good feature where we celebrate the wonderful lives our former rescue dogs are enjoying with their forever families. ❤️

Every photo, every update and every wagging tail reminds us why we do what we do. Thank you to everyone who keeps in touch with us – your messages never fail to make us smile.

This week's Sunday Smiles comes from the very handsome Rocky. ❤️

And this one is extra special because Rocky is coming up to FIVE YEARS with his forever family. 🎉

His family recently got in touch with a lovely update and some absolutely brilliant photos of our boy, and we couldn't resist sharing them with you.

So, what has Rocky been up to over the years?

Well, according to his family, he's still living his very best life, with a carefully perfected routine of naps, eating, cuddling, walks and causing mischief on repeat. 🤣

He's still hanging out with his older brother Max, and he's still brightening up the lives of everyone lucky enough to know him. ❤️

And judging by those faces, we think Rocky knows exactly how loved he is! That cheeky little tongue deserves a smile all of its own. 😍👅

We absolutely love hearing updates like this. Five years of adventures, cuddles, companionship and being part of a family – this is what rescue is all about.

Rocky's family summed it up beautifully when they thanked RDR for completing their family. 💛

And honestly, Rocky, we think you hit the jackpot too, handsome boy.

Thank you to Rocky's family for keeping in touch and sharing these gorgeous photos with us. It means so much to see our former residents happy, settled and loved years after leaving our care. 🐾❤️

We've got some lovely news to share.

Our handsome boy Kilo had visitors yesterday, and we're very pleased to let you all know that he is now RESERVED.

We know how many of you have been rooting for Kilo and keeping everything crossed for him, and we want to thank you all for the love and support you've shown him. He's certainly captured a lot of hearts! 💙

Just look at that beautiful face ❤️
How has this gorgeous girl not found her forever family yet?

Aunty Wendy enjoyed another lovely walk with Kylie last weekend, and our girl was her usual excited, fun-loving self, eager to get going and see what adventures awaited her 🐾

Aunty Wendy was particularly pleased with how well Kylie behaved when passing other dogs. With a little guidance and a short lead, Kylie happily walked past them and remained calm when a large dog barked excitedly at her.

It's lovely to see Kylie making progress, and these little moments show how much the right guidance and understanding can help her.

And, of course, we can't forget her favourite thing… TREATS! 😂🦴

Kylie knew exactly where Aunty Wendy's treat bag was and kept nudging it with her nose to remind her. She took her treats ever so gently and enjoyed a little play on the grass, too. 🥰

Kylie is a beautiful blue Greyhound with a loving, affectionate nature. She enjoys her walks, loves a cuddle and is discovering more about life beyond racing every day. She's even learnt to play fetch! 🎾💙

She will need a home that understands Greyhounds and can continue to give her the patience, guidance and reassurance she needs, particularly when out and about around other dogs. She can potentially live with a suitable dog following careful introductions, but she cannot live with cats.

🤣🧡 POOR BARNEY! HE JUST WANTS A BLOODY PLAYMATE! 🧡🤣

Barney: "Kilo! Kilo! Come on, mate! Let's PLAY! 😍"

Kilo: "Nope." 😐

POOR BARNEY! 😭

Barney's usual playmate, Kylie, is recovering from her spay, so he's had to find someone else to entertain him… and naturally, he decided Kilo was the man for the job.

Barney is READY for fun! He's bouncing about, trying his best to get Kilo involved, while Kilo is giving him absolutely NOTHING back. 🤣

Barney: 100% enthusiasm. Kilo: 0% interest.

Bless his heart, he just wants someone to play with! 🥹🧡

But here's the bit that really gets us…

💔 Barney has had absolutely NO interest in a forever home. 💔

How is this handsome boy still waiting? He's only three years old, he's sweet and gentle, and we're seeing more of his lovely personality shine through every day.

He's had some wobbly moments as he adjusts to life away from racing, but with patience, reassurance and kindness, he's finding his feet. And now we're seeing this playful, affectionate side of him too. ❤️

Somewhere out there is someone who could be Barney's person. Someone who'll laugh at his silly antics, help him build his confidence and give him the loving home he's been waiting for. 🏡🧡

🙏 PLEASE SHARE BARNEY. He can't find his forever family without people helping to spread the word. Let's get this lovely boy noticed and find him the home he deserves. ❤️🐾

🐾💙 A LITTLE UPDATE ON OUR BEAUTIFUL KYLIE (No. 4937) 💙🐾

Our gorgeous girl had a trip to the vets yesterday to be spayed, and we have a lovely little update to share.

Our wonderful transporter Aunty Rachel was absolutely smitten with Kylie, telling us how beautiful she is, how velvety soft her fur feels and what a lovely, cuddly girl she is. ❤️

There was a funny little moment when Kylie was asked to climb into the back seat of a little Micra and looked rather confused about the whole idea. So, being the princess she is, she was helped into the front seat, safely secured with her seatbelt, and off she went! 👑🚗

Kylie was brilliant in the car and wasn't bothered at all. She was also a very good girl out for a little stroll, taking all the sights and sounds in her big stride. What a star.

After her operation, Kylie returned to the kennels feeling a little wobbly, so she was given some extra cuddles and kisses.

We're pleased to report that she's doing well today and eating nicely.
Now she can concentrate on resting and recovering before getting back to enjoying her walks, playtime and, of course, all those cuddles!

Kylie has already stolen so many hearts, and we know there's a very special family out there who will be lucky enough to call her their own. 💙

🧡🐾 BARNEY UPDATE — A GENTLE BOY LEARNING TO TRUST 🐾🧡

Our handsome boy Barney (No. 4939) has been out for a lovely walk with Aunty Wendy, and she has some lovely things to tell us about him.

Barney was a little unsure when he first came into reception, gingerly making his way in and taking everything in. But this sweet boy is also very trusting, and he was happy to approach Aunty Wendy and head out for a walk with her.

🚶‍♂️ He wasn't bothered by the traffic or other dogs they encountered, and although he was initially a little unsure on the lead, he responded beautifully to reassurance and gentle guidance. He soon settled into his walk, didn't pull at all, and wagged his tail for most of the way.

🪑 A little sit down on a bench, plenty of fuss and some quiet time together were clearly appreciated. He wasn't tempted by a gravy bone, even when Aunty Wendy took his muzzle off to offer it to him — but who needs treats when you're busy making friends? ❤️

Aunty Wendy described Barney as a very sweet, lovely and gentle boy. And that's exactly what we're discovering about him.

Barney is still finding his feet in a world that can sometimes feel a little overwhelming, but with patience, kindness and reassurance, he's showing us what a special boy he is. Every little step forward matters. 🐾❤️

Now we're looking for that special person who will give Barney the time and love he needs to build his confidence and help him feel safe in his very own home. 🏡🧡

This week's Sunday Smiles is a particularly special one, because it's the gorgeous Dolly! 💛🐾

Some happy endings mean just that little bit more, and Dolly's is definitely one of them.

After waiting since July 2025, being overlooked time and time again, and watching other dogs find their forever homes, our girl finally got her chance.

And now? Just look at her! 😍

Dolly has settled beautifully into life with her wonderful dad, who thinks she's an absolute beauty and clearly adores her just as much as she deserves.

Remember when we told you she was home and already making herself comfortable, flopping onto her back for belly rubs? Well, it sounds like she's still living her very best life!

Dolly has been off on another adventure – her very first walk out to Hilbre Island! 🌊🐾

Just imagine how lovely it is to see the girl who waited so long finally getting to enjoy new experiences, making memories and sharing adventures with her favourite person.

From being overlooked to being someone's absolute beauty, Dolly's story is a wonderful reminder that sometimes the right home is worth waiting for. ❤️

We are absolutely thrilled that this special girl has found her person. Thank you to her dad for loving her, giving her the life she deserves and sharing little glimpses of their adventures with us.

Dolly, you were always worth the wait, sweetheart. Enjoy every walk, every adventure and every single belly rub. You've more than earned them! 💛🐾

❤️ A LITTLE UPDATE ON OUR HANDSOME KILO ❤️

We absolutely love how much interest there is in Kilo! 🥰 He's a lovely boy, and we know so many of you want to see him find his happily ever after.

We just wanted to gently remind everyone that finding the right home takes time, and we have a responsibility to make sure we get it right for every dog in our care.

We are currently working through the rehoming process with a potential adopter for Kilo, but this doesn't mean anything is finalised just yet. There are still steps to work through before a decision can be made.

We know it's exciting when a dog captures your heart, and we really do appreciate everyone caring so much about Kilo. ❤️

Please be patient with us and let us work through the process in our own time. We promise that when we have definite news to share, we'll let you know right here on Facebook. 🐾

Our priority is always finding the right home for life, not rushing a decision.
