🌞 Sunday Smiles with RDR 🌞

Welcome to Sunday Smiles with RDR – our weekly feel-good feature where we celebrate the wonderful lives our former rescue dogs are enjoying with their forever families. ❀️

Every photo, every update and every wagging tail reminds us why we do what we do. Thank you to everyone who keeps in touch with us – your messages never fail to make us smile.

This week's Sunday Smiles comes from our gorgeous Roxie. 🐾❀️

Roxie was adopted from Rochdale Dog Rescue in June 2020, and she has been enjoying life with her forever family ever since. πŸ₯°

Her family recently sent us these wonderful photos along with a fantastic update about all the things Roxie has been getting up to:

πŸ’¬ "In June 2020 I adopted Roxie. Being a dog walker, I had visions of spending our days together out in the woods and fields with all Roxie's future friends. However, after a while, Roxie made it clear that she never signed up to a full-time contract and she was really only interested in a part-time position! πŸ˜‚

So, we went and explored other activities that we could enjoy together, and it turned out that she LOVES tracking: finding articles that someone has hidden along a route. From an article dropped at a distance of 10 yards, we've progressed to tiny strips of fabric, hidden over an hour ago hundreds of yards away! I can't tell you how proud I was of her when we passed our level 3, our highest club level!

She also loves scentwork, where she finds small pieces of Kong or another scent hidden amongst a pile of bags or in a car. If it involves her nose, Roxie is game! We passed our bronze this year and are now working towards silver.

We've also learned Dog Parkour and she's a dab 'paw' at that as well. Is there anything this girl can't do if she sets her mind to it! We're currently enrolled in a 'movement' course (I call it 'Doggy Pilates'!), which we love too.

Turns out, while walking with her friends is nice, up to a point, Roxie wants to have something to do: she's a very, very clever girl and she wants to use those brains!

And, last but not least: she's also a very dab 'paw' at cuddling up on the sofa next to me and having her tummy tickled while we watch telly. It's only every so often that I have to turn up the sound so I can hear it over her snoring, LOL!

As you hopefully can tell, I absolutely love the bones of her. Roxie is my best friend and my whole family, all wrapped up in one gorgeous brindle fur coat! I cannot thank RDR enough for allowing me to adopt her. Anyone reading this and thinking of adopting a dog: go for it!" ❀️

And honestly, this is exactly what Sunday Smiles is all about. πŸ₯°

Roxie's story is a brilliant reminder that sometimes our dogs have their own ideas about what their perfect life should look like! πŸ˜‚πŸΎ

Her adopter had imagined long days walking together with all the other dogs, but Roxie apparently had other plans. A full-time walking contract? Absolutely not. This girl wanted a job! 🀣

And what a job she's made for herself.

From tracking and scentwork to Dog Parkour and her "Doggy Pilates", Roxie has discovered exactly what makes her tick – using that brilliant brain and, most importantly, using her nose! πŸ‘ƒπŸΎ

Going from finding articles hidden just 10 yards away to following tiny pieces of fabric hundreds of yards away, hidden for over an hour, is an amazing achievement. And passing Level 3, her highest club level, is something her family can rightly be incredibly proud of. πŸ†β€οΈ

She's also passed her Bronze in scentwork and is now working towards Silver. Clearly, Roxie isn't planning on slowing down anytime soon! 😍

But perhaps the loveliest part of her story is that after all her adventures, training and impressive achievements, Roxie's favourite place can still be right beside her human on the sofa, having her tummy tickled and enjoying a good old-fashioned cuddle.

Although apparently the snoring can sometimes interfere with the television! πŸ˜‚πŸΆπŸ’€

From a dog who wasn't particularly interested in signing up for a full-time walking career to a clever, talented little superstar who has found so many activities she loves, Roxie sounds like she is absolutely thriving.

And we LOVE hearing that. ❀️

A huge thank you to Roxie's family for taking the time to send us these beautiful photos and such a wonderful update. It really does mean so much to us to see one of our former RDR dogs enjoying life, discovering what she loves and being so incredibly cherished by her family. ❀️🐾

😊 Has Roxie made you smile today?

If she has, leave us a smiley face in the comments! We'd love to see just how many people our gorgeous girl has made smile this Sunday. ❀️

🐾 Could your adopted RDR dog be featured in a future Sunday Smiles with RDR?

We'd love to hear how they're getting on! Simply send us your favourite photos and a little update. Watching our former rescue dogs living happy, loved lives is the highlight of our week.

❀️ And if you're thinking about adopting, perhaps one of the dogs currently in our care could be featured in a future Sunday Smiles with RDR. Visit our website to meet the wonderful dogs waiting for their own happy ending.

Have a wonderful Sunday! 🐾❀️

πŸ’™ BILL – OUR HANDSOME GENTLE GIANT πŸ’™

Just look at this absolutely stunning boy!

Bill is a 4-year-old ex-racing Greyhound, born on 28/01/2022, and we honestly can't understand why this gorgeous boy is still waiting for his forever home. ❀️

Bill is a big, striking lad who certainly catches your eye, but underneath that impressive size is a wonderfully gentle and sensitive soul.

Our lovely dog walkers have been getting to know Bill and he's showing us more and more of his personality every time he goes out.

Bill LOVES getting out for his walks and he really is a pleasure to walk. He glides along, taking everything in, and he's incredibly alert to what's happening around him. He's got fantastic hearing and will often notice birds and other dogs long before we do!

But despite being very aware of his surroundings, Bill has been brilliant around other dogs. He's been very good when an off-lead dog came over for a sniff and even when a rather tentative Boxer puppy came to say hello. πŸ₯°

He's also been absolutely fine around traffic and bikes and, when he's comfortable, he really enjoys exploring the world around him.

Bill has enjoyed trips to secure fields where he's been able to stretch those very long Greyhound legs, and his playful side really comes out when he gets the opportunity to have a good run. He loves exploring, sniffing and having a bit of fun, but he also likes to check back in with his human for reassurance, cuddles and a little fuss.

And talking of cuddles... Bill is SUCH a gentle boy. ❀️

One of our favourite parts of his walks is the halfway break, when Bill enjoys a little treat and a cuddle. He's incredibly affectionate and is really beginning to form lovely bonds with the people who regularly spend time with him.

Bill can initially find new situations a little overwhelming. He's not a frightened dog, more a sensitive boy who can sometimes be a little puzzled and anxious when faced with something unfamiliar.

Because of this, Bill needs someone who understands that confidence cannot be rushed. He needs time, patience, kindness and a calm routine while he settles and learns that he is safe.

Once he becomes comfortable, you really start to see the lovely dog underneath those initial nerves.

And we think he has SO much potential. ❀️

Bill would benefit from an experienced home with someone who is prepared to let him progress at his own pace. He doesn't need a busy or demanding lifestyle β€” what he needs is a calm, understanding person who will give him the reassurance and encouragement he needs to blossom.

He's a big dog physically, but emotionally he's a sensitive soul who needs a gentle approach.

Give him time, trust and patience and we have no doubt that you'll discover what a wonderful companion this handsome boy can be. ❀️

And just LOOK at those markings! 😍 Those gorgeous flashes of white on his neck, chest, socks and the tip of his tail make him even more striking.

Bill is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Could you be the calm, patient and understanding person Bill has been waiting for?

WAFFLE UPDATE πŸΎπŸ’™

Our gorgeous Waffle has been a very busy boy this week!

On Wednesday, Waffle had his booster, flea & worm treatment and the dreaded castrate πŸ’βœ‚οΈπŸ˜‚

While he was waiting for the vet, Aunty Tracy decided it was the perfect opportunity to practise his latest trick, β€œHead down” β€” and this clever boy has absolutely mastered it! πŸ₯°

A few hours later, Tracy collected him and he was soon settling back in and recovering well from his little operation. πŸ’™

We’re so pleased with how well he’s doing, and he’s looking very happy and rather pleased with himself in these photos! 😍🐾

Waffle's adoption date is still to be confirmed, but we’ll let you know as soon as we have an update. πŸ’•πŸ’•

Good boy, Waffle! πŸΎπŸ’™

πŸŽ‚πŸΎ OH TEX... WE'VE GOT SOME EXPLAINING TO DO! πŸ˜‚

We have to hold our hands up and admit something...

We forgot your birthday! πŸ˜±πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

Today, our gorgeous Tex turned 4 years old and somehow the day has nearly disappeared without us giving our birthday boy the fuss he deserves! πŸ˜ͺ❀️

We are VERY sorry, Tex! πŸ₯Ί

But don't worry handsome boy... we're going to make it up to you tomorrow! πŸ₯³πŸΎ

So for tonight, please accept our biggest birthday wishes, lots of virtual cuddles and a promise that tomorrow we'll give you the proper birthday celebration you deserve. ❀️🐾

πŸŽ‚ Happy 4th Birthday, gorgeous Tex! πŸŽ‚

We hope you've had a lovely day, even if your RDR family have been absolute numpties and forgotten to shout about it! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚β€οΈ

We'll make it up to you tomorrow, promise! πŸ₯°πŸΎ

πŸŽˆπŸŽ‚πŸ’™ Happy Birthday Tex! πŸ’™πŸŽ‚πŸŽˆ

🐾❀️ Little Louie’s BOAS Surgery Update ❀️🐾

We wanted to share a little update on our gorgeous boy Louie. πŸ₯°

Little Louie has now had his BOAS surgery, which was funded by Rochdale Dog Rescue.

Bless him, Louie needed all four parts of the procedure to be carried out, so he certainly had a lot to contend with.
But we are absolutely delighted to say that his surgery went well and he is now back home recovering.

He may be feeling a little sorry for himself at the moment, but he is in the very best hands with his lovely Mum Laura, Dad John and his doggy sister Luna who will no doubt be keeping a very close eye on him while he recovers. πŸ₯°πŸΎ

BOAS surgery can make such a difference to dogs like Louie, helping them to breathe more comfortably and enjoy a better quality of life. That's exactly why we were determined to get this little boy the treatment he needed.

A huge thank you to everyone who supports RDR. ❀️

It's because of your donations and support that we can say YES when one of our dogs needs essential treatment like this. You are helping us give dogs like Louie the chance to breathe easier and enjoy the happy, healthy lives they deserve. 🐾

Get well soon, little Louie. You've been a very brave boy! πŸ₯°πŸΎπŸ’™

πŸΎπŸ’™ TEX IS STILL WAITING... πŸ’™πŸΎ

We really don't understand it.

Our gorgeous Tex is STILL waiting for someone to notice him. πŸ˜ͺ❀️

Despite all the lovely updates we receive from our Aunties about what a wonderful boy he is, Tex hasn't had the interest we had hoped for.

On Monday he enjoyed a lovely play date with Aunty Stacey and his friend Patch, and once again he showed us what a fabulous boy he really is. πŸ₯°πŸΎ

🐾 A little note about Greyhounds and muzzles:

You may notice that Tex is wearing a muzzle in some of his photos. As an ex-racer, Tex has spent part of his life being trained to chase, and Greyhounds have a very strong natural instinct to chase fast-moving animals.

For this reason, muzzles are commonly used with Greyhounds as an added safety precaution, particularly when they are out and about, it certainly doesn't stop them enjoying themselves!

Tex is very comfortable wearing his muzzle and, as you can see from these photos, he was still able to enjoy a lovely walk, have fun in the water and spend a lovely afternoon with his friend Patch. 🐾

Aunty Stacey said:

πŸ’¬ "Tex & Patch had a lovely play date today 🐾πŸ₯°

Tex is such a beautiful boy. He really enjoys having his back stroked, with the odd ear rub thrown in while we’re walking! He’s an absolute gentleman on the lead and lovely to walk.

It was a warm day today, so we took things easy, chilled out and had some fun in the water. It’s safe to say Tex is definitely a water baby! 🐾 The boys really enjoyed each other’s company and there were no issues at all around food.

Patch got the zoomies at one point and you could tell Tex would have loved to join in! I attached Patch’s lead to Tex’s leads to give him a little more freedom. He had a few excited jumps, but he was the perfect gentleman with me and didn’t make me regret giving him that extra bit of freedom for a second.

Such a lovely afternoon with the boys.

Good boy, Tex 🐾πŸ₯°β€οΈ"

And this is what we keep hearing about Tex. ❀️

He's affectionate and loves a fuss. He's lovely to walk. He's happy to spend time with other dogs. He's a water baby who enjoys having some fun. And most importantly, he's a genuinely lovely, gentle boy who just wants someone of his own.

So why is he still being overlooked? πŸ’”

We know that somewhere out there is the person who is going to meet Tex and wonder how on earth nobody else has snapped him up.

Maybe it's you?

If you're looking for a wonderful companion and think Tex could be the boy you've been waiting for, please take a look at his profile on our website and read all about him.

Let's get our gentle boy Tex noticed. He really does deserve his chance. 🏑❀️🐾

Thank you Aunty Stacey for another lovely afternoon with Tex and for showing everyone what a special boy he is. ❀️

Come on, Tex... we're keeping everything crossed that your person sees you soon. 🀞🏻🐾❀️
