Yesterday, we received this beautiful birthday update from Oreo's family, and it truly made our day. 🩡

"🩡 Happy 3rd Birthday, Oreo 🩡

My beautiful boy, I can't believe you're already 3 years old.

For the last 2Β½ years, you've filled our lives with more love, laughter, and happiness than I ever thought possible. You hog the entire bed, bark like a madman, only walk when you decide it's worth your time, follow me from room to room, have enough toys to stock Pets at Home, are ridiculously fussy with your food, and have cost me a fortune at the vets... but I wouldn't change a single thing. πŸ’™

You bring so much joy into our lives with your crazy zoomies, your sweet little face, your comforting cuddles, and the unconditional love you give every single day. No matter what kind of day I've had, you're always there with a wagging tail and a heart full of love.

You aren't just a dog β€” you're family, my best friend, and one of the greatest loves of my life. Watching you grow has been such a privilege, and I treasure every moment we spend together.

We love you more than words could ever say, Oreo. To the moon and back, and then even further. Thank you for being you, my precious boy.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Oreo. Stay exactly as you are β€” our perfect, beautiful boy. 🩡🐾✨ ###x"

It's hard to believe that this handsome boy is already 3 years old and has been in his forever home for the last 2Β½ years. From hogging the bed and barking at absolutely everything, to demanding cuddles and keeping his family entertained with his zoomies, Oreo is clearly living his very best life!

Reading how loved, cherished, and adored he is reminds us exactly why we do what we do. Seeing our dogs thriving in their forever homes is the greatest gift we could ask for.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Oreo! Thank you to your wonderful family for giving you the life you deserve. We hope you had the most amazing day filled with treats, toys, and lots of love. πŸΎπŸ’™

πŸ–€πŸΎ HERO IS STILL WAITING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME πŸΎπŸ–€

Hero has now been with us for a little while, and everyone who spends time with him says the same thing – what a lovely, easy-going boy he is.

This handsome retired Greyhound came into the care of Rochdale Dog Rescue on 27th May 2026 after being signed over. Hero is now looking for a family of his own where he can finally enjoy the home life he deserves.

πŸ’™ Aunty Wendy's latest walk with Hero:

"I took lovely boy Hero out for a nice walk. It was raining when we set off, but Hero wasn't bothered at all. The cooler weather suited him much better, and he walked at a good pace for most of the time.

We met lots of dogs along the way, and Hero was desperate to run and play with them. Bless him. We decided to explore a path we hadn't been down before and managed to get ourselves a little lost! In the end, we turned around and headed back towards the kennels.

Hero received lots of attention from people who wanted to stop and stroke him. As always, he was a complete gentleman and happily accepted all the fuss. While Hero isn't particularly cuddly, he absolutely loves attention and being made a fuss of. Having now walked him a few times, he is never any trouble and he is very easy to walk." ❀️

β€’ Good with other dogs
β€’ Friendly and gentle nature
β€’ Easy to walk and well-mannered in public

Like many retired greyhounds, Hero is discovering a whole new world beyond the racing kennels. He's a calm, affectionate boy who enjoys getting out and about, meeting people and watching other dogs having fun.

Greyhounds are often described as "40mph couch potatoes" because despite their athletic ability, they're generally calm, relaxed dogs who are happiest enjoying a comfortable home and a couple of daily walks.

🏑 Hero's ideal home
β€’ Secure garden required
β€’ No cats
β€’ Children aged 10+ years
β€’ Any resident dogs must be neutered/spayed
β€’ Within approximately 100 miles of Rochdale/Manchester
β€’ Someone able to give him the time and companionship he deserves

Hero has been nothing but a gentleman since arriving with us. He asks for very little – just a warm bed, regular walks, plenty of attention and a family to call his own.

Could you be the one to give Hero his happy ending? πŸ–€

🐾 LOIS UPDATE 🐾

Our little Lois has had a busy few days and we thought you'd all enjoy another update on this gorgeous girl! ❀️

First up, some feedback from Aunty Julie, who met Lois over the weekend:

"I met the lovely Lois for the first time. She’s a little bundle of joy and came out confidently ready to get going. We walked with Hero and both of them got on absolutely fine. Lois walked ahead most of the walk and was great as we passed other dogs on the path. She enjoys a bit of fuss and affection and will pop her front legs on your legs to get a bit closer and sneak in a tummy rub too. A gorgeous girl and couldn’t fault her at all. We walked about 50 minutes and she was still trotting along like she could go again. I’m sure she’ll have a queue of suitors ❀️ xx"

And today, Aunty Rachel very kindly took Lois to our vets for her spay operation:

"Dropped Lois off, what a little cutie she is, so giddy! Loved giving kisses and was just such a good little girl both in the car and with Chris! She’s a stunning looking little girl too πŸ₯°"

We're pleased to say that Lois is now recovering with lots of love and attention. ❀️

This happy, affectionate little girl continues to charm everyone she meets. She has plenty of energy, loves people, enjoys other dogs and is always ready for her next adventure.

We are still receiving interest in Lois and are carefully working through applications to find the very best forever home for her.

🐾 LOIS UPDATE 🐾

We thought you'd all like a little update on our lovely Lois from Wendy, who met her today ❀️

"Oh my goodness, I met little Lois today! What a happy, excitable girl she is. She's very pretty, with a lovely silky brown coat. Lois was confident when meeting me, although she was so excited that getting her harness on was quite a challenge! She definitely benefits from walking on a harness, as she can pull on the lead.

We headed through the park, where she spent most of the walk on an extendable lead. If she wasn't busy sniffing, she was running around enjoying herself, bless her. Lois was excellent with both people and other dogs, greeting everyone nicely. I did notice that she could be a little wary of men at first, but after an initial hesitation she quickly relaxed and was absolutely fine.

Lois has bags of energy and would thrive in a very active home where she can enjoy plenty of exercise and adventures. I took her out for an hour, and she could easily have carried on for much longer!"

As you can see, Lois is a happy, energetic young lady who loves life and is making the most of every day whilst in our care. πŸΆπŸ’•

We have received a number of applications for Lois and are currently working through them carefully to find the most suitable forever home for her.

Thank you to everyone who has shown an interest in this special little girl. We will update you as soon as we have any news...

πŸŽ‰ Happy 11th Birthday to our lovely Poppy! πŸŽ‰

We've received a wonderful update from Poppy's Mum:

"Poppy is 11 today! Calming down a little now and still enjoying life hiking, walking and holidaying! She's just been away to Wales for a week 😊 She's an amazing little girl, who gets on really well with her brothers Stan and Sheldon. Thanks so much for letting us adopt her! 😍"

It sounds like Poppy is living her very best life, enjoying adventures, family holidays and lots of love. We're so grateful to receive updates like these and to see our former residents thriving in their forever homes.

Happy Birthday, Poppy! β€οΈπŸΎπŸŽ‚

πŸ–€πŸΎ HERO IS LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME πŸΎπŸ–€

No. 4926: Hero (Neutered, Fully Vaccinated & Microchipped)

Hero came into the care of Rochdale Dog Rescue on 27th May 2026 after being signed over to us by his trainer. Thanks to some kind and caring people, we have been able to help him, but what Hero really needs now is a loving forever home of his own.

Hero is a male Greyhound, born 07/09/2021. He is a handsome black boy, large in size, with a gentle and friendly nature. He is good with other dogs and is now ready to start his next chapter as a cherished family pet.

πŸ’™ Aunty Wendy recently spent some time with Hero and had this to say:

"I met Hero for the first time and he came out of his kennel confidently, walking straight over to say hello. We slipped the lead over his head and headed off for our walk. As soon as we got outside, a large wagon passed along the road which startled Hero and caused him to back away. However, once it had gone by, he was happy to carry on.

Hero walked at a good pace and, being a typical greyhound, moved effortlessly ahead with a smooth stride. He was friendly and well-mannered around both people and other dogs. Whenever he saw dogs running and playing, he was very interested and desperate to join in.

I tried encouraging Hero to have a paddle in some water and also offered him a gravy bone, but neither appealed to him today. He seemed quite content doing his own thing and enjoying the walk at his own pace.

As the walk went on, Hero slowed down considerably on the way back. We stopped in the shade several times so he could cool off and rest before continuing. Hero is a lovely boy and deserves his forever home." ❀️

🐾 Thinking of adopting a retired greyhound?

Greyhounds make amazing pets and are often very different from what people expect.

🏑 What they're like
β€’ Calm, quiet and affectionate
β€’ Happy in houses or flats with a secure garden
β€’ Sleep for much of the day
β€’ Often described as "a cat in a dog's body"

🚢 Exercise needs
β€’ Just a couple of short walks each day
β€’ No need for daily running
β€’ Off-lead only in secure enclosed areas

ℹ️ Good to know
β€’ Many have a strong prey drive
β€’ Cat compatibility varies – Hero cannot live with cats
β€’ Muzzles are normal initially as they are used to wearing them
β€’ Slippery floors and stairs may be completely new experiences
β€’ Coats are essential in colder weather as greyhounds feel the cold

❀️ The emotional side

Many retired greyhounds have never lived in a home before. Everyday things such as televisions, stairs, mirrors and household routines can be completely new to them. They may need patience, understanding and reassurance while they adjust. Once settled, they form incredibly strong bonds with their families and become wonderfully loyal companions.

⚠️ Before applying, please ensure you meet ALL of the following criteria:

β€’ Children in the home must be aged 10 years or over
β€’ No cats
β€’ Secure garden required
β€’ Any resident dogs must be neutered/spayed
β€’ If you rent your property, landlord permission must be obtained
β€’ You must live within approximately 100 miles of Rochdale/Manchester
β€’ We do not rehome dogs who will be left alone for long periods each day

If you think you could offer Hero the loving home he deserves, please complete our rehoming enquiry form, giving as much information as possible:

https://www.rochdale-dog-rescue.com/RehomingEnquiry.html

You can also find more information and photographs of Hero in his album in the Facebook photos section.

πŸ–€ Hero has done his racing. Now he's waiting for the most important finish line of all – a family to call his own. Could that be you? πŸ–€
