Why did the scarecrow win an award? Because he was outstanding in his field🎃 🥁 ! If you’re getting stuck into some gardening this weekend, remember you can recycle empty plastic bottles and stretchy plastics like these in your green bin! ♻️ We’ll also take your plastic plant pots too (just not the black ones) 🪴💚

Do you want to be a part of one of 2027’s biggest sporting events? 🚴‍♀️

Back in January, Leeds was confirmed to host the start of stage one of the Grand Départ of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift on Friday 30 July 2027. And today organisers have launched a drive to recruit volunteers who will play a crucial role for when the world’s biggest women’s professional cycle race comes to the city next year.

Volunteers, known as JOY Makers, will receive training for a range of roles, including event operations support and spectator engagement. Applications are open to anyone aged 16 or over, with no previous volunteering experience required. Volunteers aged between 18 to 25 will also be eligible for a Readiness to Work scheme, which will provide employability skills training and career mentoring across multiple sectors.

Applications for Tour de France Grand Départ 2027 are now open until Tuesday 1 September. To find out more and apply, visit the link in the comments 👇

Fans heading to Headingley this summer can now earn rewards for choosing more sustainable ways to travel.

Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire Cricket have teamed up with BetterPoints West Yorkshire to encourage supporters to walk, wheel, cycle or use public transport when travelling to matches.

BetterPoints is a free app, funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, which rewards everyday sustainable journeys with points. These can be exchanged for vouchers, spent locally or donated to charity.

There will also be matchday prize draws throughout the season, including the chance to win tickets to see England v Sri Lanka at Headingley later this year.

Visit the link in the comments to download the BetterPoints app and find more about the prizes up for grabs ⬇️

Over 3,000 pieces of sports kit have been donated to community groups and schools as part of the Leeds kit swap event at the John Charles Centre for Sport.

The event was organised by the Kit Equipment Exchange Partnership to distribute sports kit and equipment to people across the city who may not have access to or be able to afford it.

All of the kits have now been picked up by over 50 organisations and local residents and will support a wide range of people in Leeds.

Importantly, the event has also stopped 1,496kg of clothes and equipment going to landfill and is estimated to have saved £57,902, based on average cost per item donated.

TODAYS THE DAY, please spread the word, it would be great to see as many people as possible from the village attend the meeting. Come and see how the neighbourhood plan is proceeding. Share this with your neighbours, children welcome to attend too. Tea and cake will be available.

Notice of CVNF AGM meeting
We are going to hold an AGM which is a requirement that we must comply with as a village neighbourhood group (Carlton Forum)

The AGM is on Sunday 1st March from 5pm until 6.15pm at Carlton Cricket club. Tea & cake will be served. It would be great if we could have as many people as possible attend so that you can hear about the progress made on the Neighbourhood Plan, or to give your input and ideas .

We will be taking nominees for positions on the committee, but please be assured it is not a requirement for anyone attending to be put forward for the committee, unless you wish to do so, all the present members are happy to carry on their positions.
