⭐️ Round up of this half term at YMCA Ripon.

👉Our mobile youth hub has been visiting areas and running outside youth sessions all half term.

YMCA pop up cafe on Thursdays is amazing and we’ve particularly enjoyed making our mini wall of fame with all your drawings. We continued our summer of self care, talking about what makes us feel safe and how we can recognise when our friends might need a little extra care.

👉 Young leaders have met and are planning a Christmas winter chill out for the young people of Ripon. Youth Council goes from strength to strength tackling issues and making youth voice loud and heard across the city.

📣 We opened our new hub on Westgate!! You Matter Trailblazers meet there every Wednesday from 12-6 (ages 16-24) and pop up cafe will be in this hub shortly after the half term.

⭐️⭐️Next week join us on Tuesday at the hub from 11-3 for our Young Leader training (ages 13+, lunch provided).

On Wednesday Trailblazers again in the hub, and our van can be found on Thursday from 1-3 at the skatepark.

Both Youth and Housing teams were joined by Heidi from North Yorkshire Police today to learn more about the devastating impact of knife crime amongst young people.

We watched the Virtually There 360-degree VR film which put viewers into the shoes of some of the people affected by knife attacks.

It was a powerful and thought-provoking experience, bringing home the very real and far-reaching impact knife crime can have, not only on those directly involved but on families, friends and wider communities. It also sparked some really useful conversations about how we can support young people to understand the risks, make safer choices and know where to turn to for support.

Weekly Round Up!

This week our Youth Van was once again out at Spa Park, the skatepark and Lead Lane with games and activities for young people.

This week we were making care kits for yourself or your mates (and several were made for mums too!)

It’s been great to spend the summer around Ripon in our new van. Thanks to all the young people who have been coming to see us!

Next week is the last week of our summer activities.

On Tuesday we will be running Young Leader Training at YMCA Hall, 5 Water Skellgate. It’s an opportunity for young people aged 13 to 17 to gain volunteering experience, learn important skills and gain confidence. And it’s totally free! Come join us 11 am to 3pm on Tuesday .

Then we’ll be doing our last summer outing in the Youth Van on Wednesday. We’ll be up at Lead Lane from 1pm to 3pm. Come find us!

Next Tuesday (1st September) is Young Leader Training!

If you are or know a young person aged 13 to 17 looking to access volunteering opportunities, learn life skills, and build their confidence then our Young Leaders training is for you.

And it’s completely free!

The session is from 11 am to 3pm (lunch is provided ) at YMCA Hall , 5 Water Skellgate, HG4 1BQ.

This September, YMCA Ripon is launching You Matter - Trailblazers, a new FREE programme for young people aged 16–24 who need a bit of support with their next steps into employment, education or training. This project is part of the Trailblazer programme and is funded by the UK Government.

Whether you're a young person who isn't sure where to start, or a parent/carer worried that your young person is stuck, has lost confidence or just needs some extra support to move forward, get in touch with us.

You Matter can offer:
⭐ Weekly drop-in support
⭐ One-to-one mentoring
⭐ Help with CVs, applications and interviews
⭐ Volunteering and work experience
⭐ Courses and skills development
⭐ Opportunities to meet local employers
⭐ Help exploring jobs, education and training
⭐ Support to work out what comes next

There’s no cost to take part, and support will be shaped around the individual young person and what they want to achieve.

Thanks to Ripon Piscatorial Association, the tenants at the YMCA are able to take advantage of the local rivers, ponds and canals to go fishing. Many enjoy the opportunity to get outdoors and even catch a fish occasionally. Hopefully the recent fishing equipment donated will lead to catching more big fish and not as many small fish!
