Weekly Round Up!

This week our Youth Van was once again out at Spa Park, the skatepark and Lead Lane with games and activities for young people.

This week we were making care kits for yourself or your mates (and several were made for mums too!)

It’s been great to spend the summer around Ripon in our new van. Thanks to all the young people who have been coming to see us!

Next week is the last week of our summer activities.

On Tuesday we will be running Young Leader Training at YMCA Hall, 5 Water Skellgate. It’s an opportunity for young people aged 13 to 17 to gain volunteering experience, learn important skills and gain confidence. And it’s totally free! Come join us 11 am to 3pm on Tuesday .

Then we’ll be doing our last summer outing in the Youth Van on Wednesday. We’ll be up at Lead Lane from 1pm to 3pm. Come find us!

Next Tuesday (1st September) is Young Leader Training!

If you are or know a young person aged 13 to 17 looking to access volunteering opportunities, learn life skills, and build their confidence then our Young Leaders training is for you.

And it’s completely free!

The session is from 11 am to 3pm (lunch is provided ) at YMCA Hall , 5 Water Skellgate, HG4 1BQ.

This Thursday (27th) at Ripon LGBTQ+ group we’re having a movie night! We’ll be screening Pride (2014) at YMCA Hall , 5 Water Skellgate!

The film will start at 5pm! See you then!

This September, YMCA Ripon is launching You Matter - Trailblazers, a new FREE programme for young people aged 16–24 who need a bit of support with their next steps into employment, education or training. This project is part of the Trailblazer programme and is funded by the UK Government.

Whether you're a young person who isn't sure where to start, or a parent/carer worried that your young person is stuck, has lost confidence or just needs some extra support to move forward, get in touch with us.

You Matter can offer:
⭐ Weekly drop-in support
⭐ One-to-one mentoring
⭐ Help with CVs, applications and interviews
⭐ Volunteering and work experience
⭐ Courses and skills development
⭐ Opportunities to meet local employers
⭐ Help exploring jobs, education and training
⭐ Support to work out what comes next

There’s no cost to take part, and support will be shaped around the individual young person and what they want to achieve.

Thanks to Ripon Piscatorial Association, the tenants at the YMCA are able to take advantage of the local rivers, ponds and canals to go fishing. Many enjoy the opportunity to get outdoors and even catch a fish occasionally. Hopefully the recent fishing equipment donated will lead to catching more big fish and not as many small fish!

The mobile youth hub has had a wonderful first week adventuring in Ripon! Great to see so many of you today at the skatepark today.

Yearly Youth Round Up!
This week we’ve been reflecting on this school year and planning for the next!

It’s truly been a packed year !

Our weekly groups have been so much fun!
Pop-Up Cafe has changed with the seasons, going from ice pops to hot chocolate to ice pops again (sometimes in consecutive weeks, thanks to unpredictable British weather) , one thing that has stayed consistent is dozens of young people stopping by for a snack and a game every week.

Our events this year have been very much lead by young people, with Doodle Days and Laser Tag back by popular demand, a raucous Halloween party, a heart warming Festive Feast, and a truly fabulous trip to York Pride.

We are very proud of our young volunteers! They get involved in the community in so many ways. We’ve painted bridges with the Canal & River Trust, helped out at community days at Ripon Community Link, cleared truck loads of leaves at Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal, National Trust, got involved and even performed at Ripon Theatre Festival, welcomed the crowds at Ripon Bonfire Night and much much more!
And of course there’s Ripon youth council who have had an incredible year! Working on restoring the skatepark and planning for a hustings in the new year!

We’ve been in schools and colleges across Ripon and North Yorkshire delivering workshops to students. Whether it’s about transitioning to high school with year 6s, or workshops on Mental Health, Healthy Relationships or being a Young Leader with high school students.

We’re very proud of the partnerships we’re a part of in Ripon , with so many organisations and community members coming together to support young people and make Ripon a better place.
