👵Might the HERBERT PROTOCOL help you and your famil?. Are you caring for someone with dementia / Alzheimer’s?👴

The Herbert Protocol has been developed as a resource to provide quick access to relevant information about a vulnerable individual that might go missing. The idea is for the carer / relatives to fill in a protocol booklet. The booklet askes, a number of questions that the police and emergency services would want to know when looking for a vulnerable person. The booklet also requests an up-to-date photo of the vulnerable person.

The carer / relative then retains the protocol, up until a time when it might be needed. If the person you care for goes missing, when you report this to police make them aware that you have a Hebert Protocol already in place. We can then collect the booklet from you and use the information you have provided to support us in trying to find the vulnerable person as quickly as possible.

If you would like a HERBERT PROTOCOL booklet, they can be asked for at any police station or by emailing [email protected]

🎭Miss Lindsay's Secret - Live at Grewelthorpe🎭

In conjunction with Rural Arts we are pleased to present 'Miss Lindsay's Secret' on Saturday 15th February at Grewelthorpe Village Hall. Written and performed by Maria MacDonell with Alan Finlayson and the musician Georgina MacDonell Finlayson, Miss Lindsay's Secret tells the tale of when a museum curator finds hidden letters binding Glenesk to Canada’s Klondike gold rush. But should she tell their intimate secrets?

This moving and lively play will take you from the Angus hills to Canada’s Klondike Gold Rush, during the turbulent years of the early 20th century, in the company of The Curator, The Musician, and The Man. It explores The Curator’s dilemma in finding, revealing, and becoming too involved in this intimate tale of a Scottish seamstress. A true story of love, legacy, landscape, and secret letters concealed in the Glenesk Folk Museum, Scotland.

Tickets (£12) are available from the Hackfall Cafe during opening hours, or from Rural Arts online at https://www.ruralarts.org/whats-on/performances/miss-lindsays-secret-at-grewelthorpe-village-hall/.

Doors open 7.00pm, performance starts 8.00pm. Duration 70 minutes with an interval and Q&A to follow. A bar with a range of drinks will be available.

A terrifying incident for all involved but thankfully a happy ending 🚨 🛑

Earlier today, all emergency services, including the air ambulance, rushed to a terrifying incident at Marfield Wetlands, just outside of Masham where a man in his 20s went onto the ice to rescue his dog, who had fallen through.

Thankfully, both the man and his dog were rescued, and the man has been taken to hospital to be checked over. We’re relieved to share that the dog was very cold but is also safe and well.

While this incident had a positive outcome, it serves as a critical reminder: if your dog goes onto the ice or falls in, do not follow them.

Tragically, it’s often the person who goes after the dog who doesn’t survive.

Stepping onto frozen water is incredibly dangerous. Even if the ice near the bank seems thick, it often becomes thinner as you move toward the centre. There’s no guarantee the ice can support a person’s weight.

If someone falls through, they may disappear beneath the surface, out of sight and away from help, and can drown quickly.

Once in the freezing water, the intense cold can overwhelm them, leaving them unable to help themselves.

Rescuers—whether a passersby or emergency services—may also risk their lives during rescue attempts.

What to do if your dog falls through the ice 👇

• Stay calm and do not go onto the ice yourself. If the ice couldn’t support your dog’s weight, it won’t support yours.
• Call your dog to encourage them to return to safety.
• If your dog can’t get out, call 999 immediately and ask for the fire and rescue service.

Please share this advice widely and help prevent future accidents.
