Keld Heritage Centre

Keld Heritage Centre Events space, countryside and heritage centre, well-being garden and holiday cottage in beautiful Upper Swaledale, Yorkshire Dales, UK.

Our work is based in Upper Swaledale, Yorkshire Dales, UK. Our projects, events and activities help to preserve and explain this beautiful part of the world, make it accessible to everyone and support our community of residents and visitors. From our cluster of Grade II listed buildings in Keld village we operate a holiday cottage business (all profits reinvested in our work), the Countryside & He

ritage Centre, which explains and interprets our locality, an events programme and a tranquil well-being garden. Our newly restored and fully accessible events and activity space is now taking bookings for family reunions, Bridge weekends, training days and the like. Visit our website for more details.

A big thankyou to all those hardy folk who braved the elements of Upper Swaledale today on our walk on behalf of Festival to visit the current acknowledged 'Source of the Swale' - or is it?? (See next year's Events Programme for a repeat of Prof. Mark Rutter's lecture in which he challenges this)
The fastest rising/falling river in the UK was true to its reputation after the recent heavy rain! Back in the warmth of Keld Heritage Centre in the afternoon for a presentation/guided tour of the Centre hosted by Helen.
Good to see you all, thank you for your support.

Keld is lovely little village, now with some unusual new residents from the 1920s! Set in gorgeous lush Swaledale countryside, Keld has a very strong community spirit and welcoming feel. This year they're celebrating 100 years of the Keld Public Hall - Swaledale with some fun and interesting events. On 7th June there's afun day which includes an appearance by the wonderful Muker Silver Band, field sports and a fell race, and... scarecrows.

You can find scarecrows all around the village, representing different walks of life, all themed with 1920s costumes.

Keld and surrounding area is known for the superb walks, hay meadows, waterfalls and Keld Heritage Centre so it's definitely worth a visit.

Today we were supporting the Swaledale Festival by providing a guided walk. Thankfully due to the breeze, it actually got cooler the higher we climbed!

Guided Walk: Calver Hill Circular

This afternoon’s Swaledale Festival walk made its steady way up Skelgate Lane, led with warmth and deep local knowledge by Helen Guy from Keld Heritage Centre.

Six miles of open views and quiet stories, geology underfoot, archaeology in the walls and field edges, history carried on the breeze.

A relaxed climb, good company, and that familiar Swaledale mix of light, laughter, and learning.
