🗣️ Debate Night at 2040 (Richmond) Squadron!

This week, our cadets took part in an engaging and thought-provoking debate night, exploring the fascinating topic of Intelligence in the Second World War.

Cadets discussed the impact of codebreaking, espionage, reconnaissance, and deception operations, examining how intelligence gathering influenced some of the most significant events of the war. The evening encouraged research, critical thinking, public speaking, and respectful discussion as cadets presented and defended their viewpoints.

Debate nights are a fantastic way for our cadets to develop confidence, communication skills, and an understanding of important historical events while learning from each other's perspectives.

Another great weekend on the range for our cadets as they continued developing their marksmanship skills and gaining valuable shooting experience with the cadet L98 rifle. 🎯

Shooting remains one of the many exciting opportunities available within the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, helping cadets build confidence, discipline, focus, and teamwork while working towards progressive shooting badges and qualifications.

A special congratulations goes to Cadet Applegarth for successfully earning his Bronze Shot qualification on the L98 — a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the hard work and commitment shown during training.

This week, our cadets took part in an exciting Inter-Flight First Aid Competition, testing their teamwork, communication, and practical first aid skills through a range of realistic scenarios and challenges. 🚑⛑️

Throughout the evening, cadets demonstrated excellent knowledge and professionalism while dealing with casualty assessments, emergency situations, and problem-solving tasks under pressure. It was fantastic to see such a high standard across all flights, with cadets supporting one another and putting their training into practice.

Congratulations to Atlas Flight for coming out on top and being crowned winners of this months competition! 🏆👏

Our cadets enjoyed a Squadron trip to the cinema to watch Top Gun as part of the film’s 40th anniversary celebrations. ✈️🎬

The trip was a fantastic opportunity for cadets and staff to relax, socialise, and enjoy an iconic aviation classic together outside of the normal training programme.

A huge thank you goes to CI Styles for very kindly paying for the cinema tickets, and to our Civilian Committee for generously providing refreshments for everyone attending.

Their continued support helps us create memorable experiences and opportunities for our cadets both on and off the Squadron.

Tomorrow evening we’ll be holding our Civilian Committee meeting, and it’s a great opportunity to come along, meet the team, and find out more about how you can support the Squadron behind the scenes.

Our Civilian Committee helps support fundraising, events and resources — helping us continue to provide opportunities and experiences for our cadets.

No military background or previous experience is needed, just an interest in supporting local young people and being part of the Squadron community.

Everyone at 2040 Squadron would like to congratulate former Cadet Cpl Sugden on successfully graduating from RAF Basic Training! 👏🇬🇧

Having started her journey with the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, it is fantastic to see her take the next step in her RAF career as she now moves on to Phase 2 training to become an Air Space Operations Specialist.

Cadet Cpl Sugden was a valued member of the Squadron and set a great example to younger cadets through her commitment, leadership, and determination. We are incredibly proud to see her achievements and look forward to following her progress in the Royal Air Force.

This week marked the start of our Blue Leadership course for our cadets at 2040 Squadron!

Cadets began developing key leadership skills through a mixture of teamwork, communication exercises, and practical command tasks designed to challenge their confidence and decision-making abilities.

Leadership is a core part of the Royal Air Force Air cadet experience, helping young people build valuable skills that can be used both within RAFAC and in everyday life.

A huge congratulations to three of our cadets who have successfully achieved their Blue Wings!

After completing their ground training and taking to the skies with the Air Experience Flight, these cadets have completed an important milestone in their RAFAC journey and taken their first steps into aviation training.

This is a fantastic achievement and a memorable experience that reflects their enthusiasm, commitment, and willingness to get involved in the opportunities RAFAC has to offer.

This February marks the 85th anniversary of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets—a milestone celebrating decades of opportunity, teamwork, and achievement.

To mark this special year, Central & East Yorkshire Wing has launched an exciting Taskmaster-style challenge that will run over the next 11 months, putting creativity, initiative, and teamwork to the test.

Another fantastic evening on squadron as our cadets took part in a variety of sports and fitness activities, continuing to build teamwork, resilience, and determination both on and off the parade square.

We are especially proud to celebrate the recent success of our athletics team, who put in an excellent performance representing the squadron. Their commitment, sportsmanship, and effort have been a credit to both themselves and the squadron.

Sport plays a huge role within the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, helping cadets develop confidence, leadership, discipline, and teamwork while staying active and having fun. It is always great to see our cadets supporting one another and pushing themselves to achieve their best.
