What we do-

Sometimes Mummy & Sometime Daddy Feels Books

When a parent is diagnosed with cancer, it can be difficult for children to understand not only what is happening, but also the emotions that come with it. That's why we are proud to offer Sometimes Mummy Feels and Sometimes Daddy Feels by the wonderful Hollie McFarlane as part of our children's support resources. Hollie McFarlane

These thoughtful and engaging books help children explore the different emotions a parent may experience during their cancer journey, while reassuring them that it is okay to have feelings and questions of their own. They provide families with a valuable tool to start conversations, build understanding, and help children feel more connected during a challenging time.

Recognising that every family is different, we are delighted to be able to offer these books in both English and Welsh, ensuring that families can access support in the language that feels most comfortable and natural for them.

By providing resources that are accessible and tailored to individual family needs, we hope to make these difficult conversations a little easier and help children feel supported throughout their parent's cancer journey.

Like all our children's resources, these books are provided free of charge thanks to the incredible support of our fundraisers, donors, and wider community. Your generosity allows us to continue supporting children and young people when they need it most.

What we do-

Worry Bears

When a parent is diagnosed with cancer, it affects the whole family — including the children and young people who may be experiencing worry, uncertainty, and anxiety.

That's why we offer a range of resources designed to provide comfort, support, and reassurance during this difficult time.
One of our most treasured resources is the Worry Bear, lovingly created by . Soft, tactile, and perfectly sized to fit into a child's pocket, the Worry Bear is designed to be a comforting companion wherever they go.

Whether they're at school, visiting family, or spending time away from a parent undergoing treatment, children can keep their Worry Bear close by — a small reminder that they are supported and not alone. Its comforting texture gives anxious hands something to hold, helping to soothe worried thoughts when they need it most.

Because sometimes, a little bear can make a big difference.

If you would like to learn more about the support and resources available for children and young people affected by a parent's cancer, please get in touch.

What we do-

Listening to Young People

One thing we've learned through our work supporting children and young people affected by a parent's cancer diagnosis is that support isn't one-size-fits-all.

There are many wonderful resources available for younger children, but far fewer designed specifically for secondary school-aged children and teenagers. We found that many teenage boys told us that the resources available simply didn't feel relevant to them.

Through conversations with at our outdoor programmes, group sessions, and through speaking with parents, we asked young people what support would actually make a difference to them. Their answer was clear.

Many asked for Amazon gift cards. Not because they wanted something extravagant, but because it gave them choice. They could add credit to a gaming account, download a film, buy snacks, purchase a book, or simply choose something for themselves at a time when so much of life felt outside their control.

It was a powerful reminder that the most meaningful support is often the support that young people ask for, not what we as adults think they need.

We continue to search for and develop resources specifically for older children and teenagers, ensuring that they are not overlooked. Too often, support focuses on primary school-aged children, leaving young people in secondary school without age-appropriate resources that reflect their experiences and needs.
We hope that will change.

At the Trust, we believe that young people should help drive the conversation about the support and resources available to them. By listening to their voices, we can provide support that is relevant, meaningful, and genuinely helpful during one of the most challenging times in their lives.

Thank you to the young people who continue to share their experiences and help shape the work we do.

Can you help a young person we’ve supported? He would like the Trust to sponsor him for the upcoming football season. For every man of the match, goal scored etc, a photo of him in a shirt with our logo on will go up on socials.

We have supported this young person during his parent’s cancer treatment and through bereavement.

Can you help us to do this by making a donation towards the sponsorship, the cost is £40 so we can get our logo put on the shirt.

If you can, please use this link and put shirt so I know what to allocate it to

The Little C Club Flashcards – Mummy & Daddy Editions

We are proud to offer The Little C Club flashcards, both the Mummy Edition and Daddy Edition, as part of the support available to children affected by a parent's cancer diagnosis.
Created by Jen Pope and Nic Owen, these thoughtful resources were born from lived experience.

Both Jen and Nic were living with incurable cancer while raising and caring for their own children, giving them a unique understanding of the challenges families face when navigating cancer alongside family life.

The flashcards have been carefully designed to help parents start meaningful conversations with their children about cancer, emotions, treatment, and the changes that may be happening around them. They provide gentle prompts and age-appropriate language, helping families communicate openly and honestly while creating opportunities for connection and reassurance.

For many parents, knowing what to say can be one of the hardest parts of a cancer diagnosis. These cards offer practical support, helping families talk through difficult topics in a way that children can understand.

We are incredibly grateful to Jen and Nic for creating resources that continue to support families facing the realities of cancer while raising children. Their compassion, insight, and determination to help others have created a legacy for families who may be feeling overwhelmed and uncertain.

Like all our children's resources, The Little C Club flashcards are provided free of charge thanks to the generosity of our fundraisers, supporters, and donors. Your support enables us to continue providing practical and emotional support to children and young people when they need it most.

What we do-

"Mummy's Got a Poorly"

One of the resources we provide to support children through a parent's cancer diagnosis is Mummy's Got a Poorly, a beautifully written book by our wonderful ambassador, Sarah West.

Sarah was diagnosed with incurable cancer while raising her two young children. Through her own experience, she understood just how difficult it can be to explain a cancer diagnosis to children and to help them navigate the worries, questions, and emotions that come with having a poorly parent.

Determined to help other families facing similar circumstances, Sarah wrote Mummy's Got a Poorly as a gentle, reassuring resource for children. Written in a way that is easy for young minds to understand, the book helps families start important conversations about cancer, treatment, and the changes that may happen along the way.

Sarah was a passionate advocate for the work we do at the Trust and was committed to ensuring that children affected by a parent's cancer diagnosis received the support they needed. Her compassion, courage, and dedication continue to have a lasting impact on the families we support.

We are proud to provide Mummy's Got a Poorly as part of our children's support resources. Like all our services and resources, it is provided free of charge thanks to the generosity of our supporters, fundraisers, and donors.

Sarah's story, her strength, and her determination to help other families live on through this wonderful book, which continues to bring comfort, understanding, and reassurance to children facing a parent's cancer diagnosis. I wish she was here to see how much her book is helping.
