North Wales Mobility & Driving Assessment Service

North Wales Mobility & Driving Assessment Service We offer driver and passenger assessments that aim to provide the client with a safe, long-term mobility solution.

The Wales Mobility and Driving Assessment Service is an all Wales organisation assisting elderly or disabled people to achieve safe outdoor mobility as drivers or passengers. Clients have opportunity to discuss their mobility requirements and then evaluate a wide range of vehicles, adapted driving controls and passenger assistance equipment. We also provide assessment of practical fitness to drive

which explores the driver's ability to continue or return to driving in safety following a medical event. The assessment of practical fitness to drive is not a driving test but does investigate the physical, cognitive and visual abilities required for safe driving. Following assessment a comprehensive report is sent to the client. Clients are then able to access on-going advice and guidance to ensure they achieve their optimum level of outdoor mobility. A free information and advice service is also available.

April marks Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness, share experiences, and promote a more inclusive society. 💜 It’s about helping people understand the impact of limb loss and limb difference while celebrating the resilience and achievements of those affected.

For many people, a limb loss or difference can affect independence and daily activities— including driving. However, with the right approach and appropriate adaptations, many people are able to drive safely and independently. These may include:
⚙️ Hand controls for acceleration and braking
🛞 Steering aids for one-handed control
🚗 Automatic vehicles or adapted controls

Driving with a Disability: Autism & Neurodiversity 🧠
April is World Autism Acceptance Month, with World Autism Awareness Day on Thursday 2nd April 💙 — a time to celebrate neurodiversity and promote greater understanding, inclusion, and support.

For some autistic people and neurodivergent individuals, learning to drive can present additional challenges — such as processing information, communication, or sensory differences. However, with the right support, many people are able to learn to drive safely and confidently. 🚗

The driving test standard is the same for everyone, but reasonable adjustments are available to help individuals demonstrate their ability. These can include extra time, support with understanding questions, or tailored communication during the test.
