The crew at Rhyl are saddened and disappointed to announce that we will be saying farewell to our all-weather lifeboat in 2028. Our Shannon class lifeboat has served us well since her arrival in 2019, and her departure marks the end of a 175 year history of the all-weather service at Rhyl.

We’ll always be proud of the lives saved and the people we have rescued onboard Anthony Kenneth Heard and the crew will be heavy hearted when this chapter of lifesaving comes to an end.

This said, we will look forward to the arrival of the new Atlantic 85 Mk4 and the opportunities it brings. The crew and all the volunteers at the station will continue to work to make the lifesaving service at Rhyl remain one of the best.

We are grateful for the ongoing support from our community as we adapt to the changing rescue profile.

📣 RNLI RHYL FISH SUPPER 📣

On Thursday the 8th of October, we opened our doors to the public for the annual tradition of our RNLI Fish Supper!

The event saw over 100 people enjoying a Fish and Chip meal in the station, as well as a short film composed of the work that the RNLI does for the public. Brian Howatson from The Rotary Club also delivered a speech and generously donated to the RNLI, and a raffle was held where attendees had the opportunity to win several different prizes. As a whole, the event raised over £1,400 for the charity thanks to our wonderful locals and supporters who attended the event.

A spokesperson from our station said:

“it was a lovely night, and truly a ‘one crew’ event ‘filled with delicious food, full of happy smiles, and wonderful company”.

We’d like to warmly thank everyone who attended the event for giving us their time and support, and the Volunteers and various external businesses for their hard work and generosity in helping us provide for the event 💙

Young people bring RNLI wartime stories to life through giant sand art 🖼️ 💙

Last weekend on the 26th of September, St Asaph Girl Guides, Henllan Girl Guides, Trefnant Girl Guides, RNLI Volunteers, and members of the public came together to create an incredible 80m artwork on Rhyl Beach as part of the RNLI’s Stories of Courage 1939-45 project.

Working alongside the talented team from Sand In Your Eye, participants learned about the RNLI’s roles during the war, and that between 1939 and 1945, RNLI crews launched 3,760 times and saved 6,376 lives. They also discovered the work of the RNLI’s pioneering ‘Lady Launchers’, and the humanity shown by lifeboat crews who rescued anyone in danger at sea, regardless of their nationality.

Alongside learning about RNLI heritage and creating the artwork, participants also learned some of the charity’s most important water safety advice from RNLI volunteers, helping them learn skills which could one day save lives. A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped bring this fascinating chapter of RNLI history to life 💙
