At this year’s AGM, we’re introducing a Scout uniform recycling scheme to help support families across the group while caring for the environment ♻️

We’ll have our current stock of pre-loved (and freshly laundered! 😊) uniform available to look through, so families can take the items they need. We’d simply ask for a small donation back to the group in return.

If your young person is moving up and no longer needs parts of their uniform, we’d be grateful for any donations. A great way to give uniforms a second life, save money, and help fellow Scout families 💙

Scouting is about so much more than our weekly meetings and activities and provides our young people with some fantastic international opportunities as well.

We are very proud to have 5 of your young people selected for international trips in 2027.

First up are Explorer Orla and Scouts Ben and Isla who are part of Unit 11 heading to the 26th World Scout Jamboree in Poland next summer.

The World Scout Jamboree is one of the most significant events in the global Scouting movement, bringing together thousands of young people from around the world to celebrate unity, adventure, and cultural exchange. Held approximately every four years, the Jamboree is a gathering unlike any other, offering Scouts the opportunity to experience a world of diversity while participating in activities that foster personal growth, leadership, and global citizenship.

Unit 11 have held their first training camp with the second coming in June.

Explorers Iona and William are taking part in West Region's trip to Peru next summer. They will be travelling as part of a group of 14 to 24 year olds on an unforgettable trip combining impactful community projects with the chance to explore the world-renowned Machu Picchu.

Both groups are expected to fundraise towards the cost of their trips and so watch out for information on what they get up to over the next 15 months.

We wish them all the best with the fundraising!

- Did you know that May marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Month, and Scouting has been supporting young people’s wellbeing for generations. 💚⚜️

Research that was conducted from the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow found that adults who were Scouts or Guides in childhood are around 15% less likely to experience anxiety or mood disorders by the age of 50.

The study suggests that the skills learned through Scouting - such as resilience, teamwork, self‑confidence and time spent outdoors - can have lifelong benefits for mental health.

At its heart, Scouting isn’t just about activities and badges - it’s about helping young people build the confidence and coping skills they need for life. That impact can last well beyond childhood, supporting better wellbeing well into adulthood.

Congratulations Devin! 👏

We’re really pleased to share that Devin Healy will be taking on the role of Group Lead Volunteer (GLV) for 1st Rhu Scout Group.

Devin steps into the role following Louise Mathis, who has dedicated an incredible amount of time, energy and commitment to the Group. Louise has helped build strong foundations, supported our volunteers, and created fantastic opportunities for our young people. We’d like to sincerely thank Louise for everything she’s contributed 👏

Over the coming months, there will be a handover period to ensure continuity and support as Devin settles into the role and builds on the excellent work already taking place.
We’re delighted to welcome Devin and look forward to seeing her work alongside our volunteer team to continue delivering exciting, safe and adventurous opportunities for young people.

Please join us in welcoming Devin to her new role! 😊🎉
