CARAD, (Community Arts Rhayader And District,) is an independent charity working in the field of arts and heritage. It gives people in Mid-Wales the chance to involve themselves in artistic expression and interpretation, to share experiences and to tell their personal stories in different ways. People who live in this beautiful area have a strong sense of place and community: oral and folk history are part of everyday conversations, and the environment an integral part of everyday work.

Poet Wendell Berry has died. Within the past few weeks, we have lost many singers, writers, actors and artists who spoke to our souls and gave us a sense of hope, of belonging and of identity. They also often inspired action. Wendell was an environmental activist, his most famous poem expressing why looking after our environment is so important.
Dolly Parton was a social activist, using her funds and her love to support literacy and the economic and social betterment of poorer communities.
They were inspirational. Arts matter, they let us express what we perhaps can't and give a voice to those of us, most of us, who want peace, healthy and happier communities and a chance to pass on a beautiful world to our children.
We have those people amongst us today. Their's are precious voices whose work makes our lives richer and who speak to a better future.
The arts: artists, singers, musicians, writers, actors, makers, designers and storytellers, are not a luxury.

We were really pleased to welcome local author Marian Harris who has written the excellent book, 'The Dulas Valley Victory....and the Tryweryn Factor', about the battle to save their valley, community and heritage from flooding. She visited with her sister Meryl Davies who told us that the farm on the front of the book was their family home and that she had been born there.
They both loved their visit and look around TimeScape, calling it a 'lovely surprise' with 'excellent displays and imaginatively presented'.
If you would like to enjoy what they saw or get a copy of Marian's very interesting book, we are open from Thursday - Saturday, 10.30-4.00, until November.
