As part of Volunteers’ Week, we would like to recognise and celebrate the incredible contribution James Stuart makes to the Rhayader and Cwmdauddwr community.
James is involved in numerous voluntary organisations and committees across the area, including Rhayader Carnival, the Vintage Show, Cwmdauddwr Community Hall, Wye Kidz, and Rhayader Players. His dedication to community life and helping others is truly inspiring.
Known to many as “Captain Carnival,” James stepped forward to take on the role of Carnival Chair at a time when the future of Rhayader Carnival was uncertain, and the town’s long-standing tradition was close to ending. Since then, through his leadership, enthusiasm, and hard work, the carnival has continued to grow from strength to strength and remains a highlight of the community calendar.
James gives his time selflessly and asks for nothing in return. Following in the footsteps of his mother, he carries a real passion and enthusiasm for community spirit, always putting others first and quietly getting on with the jobs many people would shy away from.
Not only does he volunteer across multiple organisations, but he also serves as a Town Councillor, representing the people of Rhayader and Cwmdauddwr with genuine care and commitment, always focused on helping others rather than personal gain.
Whether helping organise events, supporting local groups, or simply lending a hand where needed, James continually goes above and beyond for the benefit of the community. He is a fantastic role model and a true example of the positive impact volunteers have on community life.
Thank you, James, for everything you do.
Happy Volunteers’ Week!
