Rhayader Carnival Week

Rhayader Carnival Week Rhayader Carnival Week 2026 12th -19th July, with Carnival day itself being on Saturday 18th July!

A week or more of fun events in and around the town leading up to carnival day (22nd July 2023)

01/06/2026

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we would like to recognise and celebrate the incredible contribution James Stuart makes to the Rhayader and Cwmdauddwr community.

James is involved in numerous voluntary organisations and committees across the area, including Rhayader Carnival, the Vintage Show, Cwmdauddwr Community Hall, Wye Kidz, and Rhayader Players. His dedication to community life and helping others is truly inspiring.

Known to many as “Captain Carnival,” James stepped forward to take on the role of Carnival Chair at a time when the future of Rhayader Carnival was uncertain, and the town’s long-standing tradition was close to ending. Since then, through his leadership, enthusiasm, and hard work, the carnival has continued to grow from strength to strength and remains a highlight of the community calendar.

James gives his time selflessly and asks for nothing in return. Following in the footsteps of his mother, he carries a real passion and enthusiasm for community spirit, always putting others first and quietly getting on with the jobs many people would shy away from.

Not only does he volunteer across multiple organisations, but he also serves as a Town Councillor, representing the people of Rhayader and Cwmdauddwr with genuine care and commitment, always focused on helping others rather than personal gain.

Whether helping organise events, supporting local groups, or simply lending a hand where needed, James continually goes above and beyond for the benefit of the community. He is a fantastic role model and a true example of the positive impact volunteers have on community life.

Thank you, James, for everything you do.

Happy Volunteers’ Week!

🎉🚛 **Parade Day = Fun Day!** 🎭🌟

As we get ready for another amazing Carnival, we want to keep our award-winning parade **safe, family-friendly, and full of smiles** for everyone! 💙

To help us do that, please remember these important parade rules:

🚫 No glass on the lorries
🚫 No flares on the lorries
🚫 No smoking on the floats while passing through the council yard
🚫 No getting off the floats during the parade

These measures are in place to keep everyone safe and to ensure we meet all insurance, health & safety, and event requirements.

⚠️ Anyone found breaking these rules may be removed from the parade. In some cases, if necessary, an entire float could be withdrawn.

We know rules aren’t the most exciting part of Carnival, but they help us protect our fantastic parade family and ensure everyone has a brilliant day! 🎊

🏆 Let’s work together to keep our Carnival the best around—safe, welcoming, family-friendly, and packed with fun from start to finish!

💃🕺🎺 **Thank you for your support, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you all!** 🎉🎉

Rhayader Carnival Committee were shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Linda Williams, or “Duckie” as she was known to many.

Linda was a lady who always had time for everyone and supported Rhayader Carnival for more years than we could begin to imagine. Whether coming along with the Newtown Queen or simply being present, she always brought laughter, warmth, and so much more wherever she went.

We would like to pass on our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, her St John’s Family (of which she was so proud) and of course everyone involved with Newtown Carnival. Even with a new committee, we are sure Duckie will be greatly missed, and a huge hole will be left by her passing.

‘Wherever a beautiful soul has been. There is a trail of beautiful memories.’

Rest in peace, Duckie. 💜
