It was a privilege to represent the RGS Foundation at the RGS Surrey Hills Open Morning on Saturday and to see the school through the eyes of the pupils who were so proudly showing prospective families around.

It was also a great opportunity to meet current parents and staff and talk about how the RGS Foundation brings together our wider Reigatian community - connecting Reigatians around the world and creating opportunities through those relationships.

More connections. More opportunities. More ways for our community to support, learn from and open doors for one another. It was lovely to see that shared sense of community so clearly in action on Saturday and we look forward to building even more connections with families and staff at RGS Surrey Hills.

What if your classroom became a real workplace - and your ideas became part of its future?

This is exactly what happened yesterday when our Reigate Grammar School Sixth Form Art and DT pupils stepped inside the fantastic new Workplace Creations office, in Reigate, for an inspiring afternoon of creativity, careers and collaboration.

From exploring the many roles behind workplace design and construction, to touring the new office and getting hands-on with mural artist Ollie Cooper, pupils had the opportunity to see where creative ideas can lead ... and to put their own ideas into practice.

Their designs will now help shape a new centrepiece mural for the Workplace Creations office.

A brilliant example of local businesses opening their doors, sharing their expertise and helping young people connect creativity with future careers. A huge thank you to Kerrie Burgess and Lauren-Elise Kennedy and the Workplace Creations team for their warm welcome, generosity and enthusiasm.

Laura Gent (2006–2013) has built a career at the intersection of sport, science and helping others: working with Birmingham Royal Ballet, England Athletics and England Hockey, and supporting athletes and performers on stages and pitches around the world.

From a running injury that first introduced her to physiotherapy, to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and international tours with Birmingham Royal Ballet, Laura’s journey is one of taking opportunities, continuing to learn and being inspired by those around her.

She has recently completed an MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine and is now taking the next step in her career with a new role at a leading sports medicine practice in London.

We caught up with Laura to find out more about her journey, her RGS memories and her advice for the next generation.

From RGS to New York City. But it wasn’t always the plan…

Ryan Smith (RGS 2005–2012) left school with little idea where his career would take him. Fast-forward a few years, and he’s built a career in strategic communications and a new life across the Atlantic.

🚖 “Google Maps Taxis” ... At Reigate Grammar School, Haydn Culverwell (RGS 2009–2017) pitched this idea during Industry Week - a way of using technology to match people needing a taxi with drivers in real time - a concept later made famous by Uber.

Fast forward a few years, and after a career in the City, Haydn left to launch Mulligans - an AI-powered marketplace helping golfers buy and sell equipment with confidence.

From early ideas that were a bit ahead of their time to building a real-world start-up, Haydn's journey is packed with insight, humour, and lessons learned along the way.
