WILD Young Parents Project

WILD Young Parents Project WILD wants young parents & their babies to have a fair start in life. For this to happen, we support new parents & parents-to-be aged 23 and under.

A fair start means every baby born to a young parent gets an equitable, fulfilling chance at life. WILD believes that young parents and their children have a right to a better future, equal choice, education and opportunity, and freedom from poverty. WILD works with young parents where one parent is under 20. We also welcome some young parents up to 23 years if they have extra needs. This includes

pregnant young women, and parents who are not living with their children. We welcome referrals from professionals via telephone. If you are a young person who would like some support from WILD, or to attend one of our groups, send us a message and someone will get back to you!

⭐ Miles for WILD ⭐

A huge cheer to Rhea for completing the AJ Bell Bristol Half Marathon on Sunday!! And a huge thank you for choosing to fundraise for WILD, and for everyone’s donations.

The fundraising really matters, but it’s more than that.

It’s about raising awareness of WILD and the support young parents deserve, and showing the resourcefulness and determination of young parents.

Rhea’s commitment to the training and fundraising says a lot. Not just about this run, but about every step young parents take and the strength they hold for themselves and their children.

We’re really proud to have been part of this with you Rhea, thank you.

It’s not too late to read more and support, the fundraising link is here…

GOOD LUCK!!!

This weekend, Rhea is running the AJ Bell Bristol Half Marathon 🏃‍♀️

Every mile Rhea has trained for, every pound fundraised, and every step she’ll take on that course tells a bigger story — of commitment, strength, and belief in herself and others.

We are so incredibly proud of Rhea. Not just for running all those miles, but for everything this journey represents: running for herself, for her daughter, and for other young parents who deserve to be seen, supported, and celebrated.

This is what courage looks like.

Good luck Rhea - we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way. Thank you for running with WILD beside you 💜✨

World Maternal Mental Health Day 🌍💜

Globally, 1 in 5 women experience mental health challenges during pregnancy or after birth.

This , the call to action is ACT:

⭐ Acknowledge maternal mental health
⭐️Consider the realities of women’s lives and experiences
⭐ Treat with compassion, timely support, and respect

At WILD, we work alongside young parents every day who show us that mental health doesn’t exist in isolation — it’s connected to housing, finances, relationships, stigma, and how society views young parent families.

We are here to amplify those voices and support maternal mental health today and every day.

WILD supports Maternal Mental Health Awareness week, encouraging all young parent families to talk about mental health before, during and after pregnancy.

We stand with and in raising awareness, advocating changing attitudes and helping people access information and support they need.

What Is Perinatal Mental Health?

* Perinatal Mental Health focuses on the emotional well-being of individuals from pregnancy through the first year after birth – a period marked by significant hormonal, physical, emotional, and social shifts that can increase vulnerability to mental health challenges.

* The term "perinatal" specifically covers this timeframe, from conception to the baby's first birthday.

* Approximately 1 in 5 women experience a perinatal mental health illness.

* 70% may conceal or downplay these difficulties.

* While anyone can be affected, certain factors elevate the risk, including a history of mental health issues (such as bipolar disorder), neurodiversity, multiple pregnancies, biological predispositions, lack of support, difficult childhood experiences, domestic abuse, financial instability or insecure housing, and traumatic events like birth trauma or baby loss.

* If you have had a baby and are experiencing symptoms, please reach out to a healthcare professional such as your doctor, midwife or health visitor.

We’re proud to be at the Launceston Women's Health Art Project exhibition at Launceston Family Hub 💜

Alongside many other women from across the community, young parents supported by WILD have created powerful pieces of art responding to women’s health — in all its complexity, strength, pain, resilience and truth.

These images speak to real experiences: bodies, mental health, pregnancy, loss, birth, neurodiversity, hormone changes, healthcare journeys and the systems that shape them. There is nothing abstract about this — it’s lived experience, expressed with honesty and courage.

Being here is about more than art. It’s about visibility, voice, and changing the story about young parent families. When young parents are trusted and supported, they don’t just participate — they lead, create and challenge the narrative.

Miles for WILD 💫

We are proud of all our families at WILD, but we’d like to share a special shout out to one young mum who is taking on the miles and running the AJ Bell Great Bristol Half Marathon!!

Running all those miles is no small feat, training takes time and commitment, determination and belief - and choosing to raise funds to support WILD and other young parents speaks volumes. We couldn’t be prouder 😊
