I'm having a bit of a fabric de-stash & sale here at Upcycle Kernow CIC.

I'll be here Thursday & Friday 11 til 4.30
Saturday & Sunday by appointment only (that means you can pm me and we'll organise a time!)
Monday & Tuesday 11 til 4.30

Come and have a rummage - there's all sorts - cottons, wovens, knits, lightweights for dress making, vintage duvet covers, upholstery samples, small pieces, big bits, and a huge bag of "interesting" scraps that are great for free motion & textile art.

And I haven't started in the trims yet 🙈🫣...

Make a pile and give a donation 😉

It is with a heavy heart that we have made the sad decision to stop running our Repair Café from the end of August.

Due to rising costs, and lack of any funding, it is just not financially viable to continue. As some of you are aware, core costs (that's rent, electric and other utilities) have been subsidised through the private work carried out by some of the staff at Upcycle Kernow CIC. And we can't continue to do that any longer.

We will continue to operate until the end of August, from 1.30 til 4pm. Dates are:
29th July
5th August
12th August
19th August
26th August

There are other Repair Cafés in Cornwall, so please do check Cornwall Repair Cafe Network for details of sessions running near you.

We are very sorry it has come to this, but can no longer subsidise the ever increasing costs.

Many thanks go to all our amazing volunteers who have made this community project possible, and a huge thanks to everyone who has attended over the past 7 years.

Best wishes to you all
Dawn 💖

**Edit: Thanks to everyone who expressed an interest, Jack has found a new home 🤗

We have finally decided the time has come to sell our Jack Industrial Sewing machine JK -20U - 93Z, which was recently serviced by Sew-Quick, Penryn

Ideal machine for dressmaking, clothing etc. Zig zag option and changeable needle position, speed variation and half stitch.
Fills the bobbin while you sew too.

Comes with all necessary parts (as shown) and a few extras including a piping foot

It's a great machine, we're only selling due to lack of space. We've got so many beautiful vintage machines now, and they are more accessible to our members who come to the sewing groups.

You're very welcome to come and view and try it out, and if you'd like more details drop us a DM or email [email protected]

Collection only from TR16 4FX
Delivery not possible but I can help get it into your van.
This is a really heavy machine, and will need a bit of 💪🏼 to get it out at your destination.

Thank you 🙏🏼

We’ve got some fab workshops coming up over the next few months, and I’d like to get the ball rolling by introducing our ROLL TOP RUCKSACK WORKSHOP.

Learn how to make a gorgeous bespoke Roll Top Rucksack, complete with internal pocket, clip for your keys, outer zipped pocket, adjustable straps and side pockets. You can make this rucksack specific for your use - line it with waterproof fabric to store your swim kit, make the outer with waterproof canvas for those hiking trips around rainy Cornwall, or make it with plush fabrics just because you want too!

The workshop will be held over 2 days, or 3 evenings, depending which group you’d like to attend. Dates are:
1 weekend: 28th & 29th March 10am til 4pm
2 week days: Friday 20th & 27th March 10am til 4pm
3 evenings: Wednesday 18th& 25th March, 1st April 6 til 9pm

Spaces are limited to 4 spaces per workshop to ensure a good teacher:student ratio, and are suitable for any level of sewer as I will take you through every stage and step of the way.

The cost of the workshop is £90, and we will provide your pattern, wadding, fusing (interface), and a light lunch/supper of vegan soup and yummy locally baked bread. The kettle will also be on and you know there’s always biscuits. For those of you without sewing machines & sewing kit, we have supplies here you are welcome to use.
You will need to supply all the hardwear, fabric & thread. You are very welcome to rummage through our stash of fabric (at no extra cost) but we can’t always cater for everyone’s taste. A comprehensive list of requirements will be supplied on booking. Please also bring your sewing machine & sewing kit, as its much easier to work with equipment you know.

You can book your space by emailing [email protected] and you will be given our BACS details. On receipt of your BACS payment, you will be given the full list of requirements for the course, along with suggested suppliers for hardwear and fabrics. Bookings will only be confirmed on receipt of payment.

Any questions? Drop me a message, leave a comment or email me!

I’m really looking forward to sharing this workshop with you – it’s taken me a fair few weeks to get it just right, and you should leave with a fabulous bag, a pattern, and the confidence to make more!

Thank youuuu

Wowzer! We've just received THE BEST news, and I am so excited to share it with our !

The McEwan Award is a RIBA Architectural award with an original mission:

"The award highlights projects that demonstrate a "mutual willingness of architect and client to push at the edges of what a typology can be". It covers a wide range of projects, including community-focused housing, public realm improvements, schools, and cultural buildings, often with a "making a lot with little" approach.

And guess what?!? Our building has been awarded HIGHLY COMMENDED for the recent retrofit and refurbishment! Isn't that exciting!

You can read more here.....
https://www.ribaj.com/buildings/upcycle-kernow-portreath/

The team responsible for this amazing build - Frances Crow of Crow Architecture, Lane Architects Cornwall, Pink Pebble Consulting and Social Constructs - are really deserving of this award! Well done you guys!

And of course, none of this would have happened without funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the hard work and dedication of the Volunteers here at Upcycle Kernow CIC.

I think we deserve a cup of tea.....

This week's Art Club was awesome! 👩🏼‍🎨🫟

The artists wanted to work on more mixed media collaging, using some of the mark making samples they made last week, and we also had a chance to play with water colours in preparation for next week's class.

This is proving to be a very relaxing workshop, with tea, biscuits and some gentle Radio 3 classical music in the background!

Next week's class will be held on Tuesday due to half term commitments, and if you'd like to join us, there's still space available.
Just DM us directly or drop us an email to [email protected]

Further details can be found in the comments below 👇🏼👇🏼
Because FB doesn't like it when we talk costs 🤣🤣🤣

I remembered to take photos of our first ART CLUB workshop on Wednesday 🥳🫟🎨!
What an awesome workshop this is, so inspiring and motivating!

Rose Haddy - our Artists & workshop facilitator - brought some of her sketch books along, and we have a great stash of supplies to bring your creations to life. We made some creative mark-making, for use in our next session, and started work on a concertina style sketch book - working with collage, mark making with paints, pens, wax and chalk pastels. Some chose to be loose and free, tapping into the creative nature that the techniques took them, whilst others had a landscape in mind to recreate.

It was very difficult to stop at the end of the session, with all the participants already making plans for the next session.

Although we originally advertised this as a 4-week course, we have since decided to make it an open class, so you can join in the class at any point and begin your journal and sketch book when you feel ready. Thanks to our large workshop space, we can accomodate a few more participants each week, so if you'd like to join us then get in touch. You can DM us directly, or email [email protected]

Art Club runs every Wednesday morning (we wont stop for half term!), 10am til 12.30. Tea & biccies will be available, and all your materials will also be supplied. If you do have a journal or sketch book (or any art materials, and interesting papers) that you'd like to continue making, then please do bring them along.

Many thanks to Rose for hosting the class, and I'm looking forward to seeing where this Art journey takes us!

see you soon for some creative fun! 🫟🎨🤩
