Lots of fun today at the Friday Friendship Group.

We began with a glass making activity; we try to develop our creativity through new activities and this was a first! We did well 👍. Learning new skills is known to help us as we grow older and it is great fun.

We also celebrated Sarah’s birthday with coffee and walnut cake. Perfect to then have John with us for our monthly fitness session.

Today, as well as stretching and strength exercise, we focused on balance too - so important as we grow older. A time of quiet, mindfulness and being still- something we all need to do. Practice the breath. In a world of noise and pressure. as this quote reminds us. ‘The quieter you become, the more you can hear’ - Ram Dass. Sitting in our room together under the fairy lights, eyes closed we relaxed and listened.

We then enjoyed lunch before the children from Little Hearts Nursery joined us for more fun and activity. It is so important that little children have the opportunity for new experiences and to meet people of different ages and abilities, to laugh and share together. It is also rewarding for the Friday Group to experience the energy, the chatter of the children- to connect together.

We then played games, including Bingo to finish and all went home feeling upbeat and happy. 😃.

The sun continues to shine and we thank Paul and Ben for helping Terry and Mary to manage the watering! Paul has already been today but another visit was needed at 4.00 p.m. because of the extreme heat. A dahlia has bloomed- they seem to love the heat whilst the potatoes and tomatoes needed a second soaking.

We meet Friday- last week we worked with dry clay and will be finishing our creations along with painting and bracelet making. If the heat continues, ice- cream instead of cakes and biscuits!

Do pop in- cup of tea on the ready and we would love for new people to join our group. We are a welcoming bunch- based at Heartlands and occupying unit 4. What is there not to love about Friday Friendship! 10.00 through to 12.00 with lunch and peer support to follow through to 2.45.

Today our Art for Well Being group host an exhibition in St Mary’s Church Hall in Portreath between 2.00 and 2.30. This is a no charge event for the community. Together we have made this happen at low cost and offer a warm welcome to anyone coming along. Community is about looking after one another, providing lovely space to meet and seeing what people create when given the opportunity.

We look forward to the pre-schoolers popping in to see the art work and to have a go at watercolour painting.

We look forward to the cake and tea, the music but most of all to seeing different generations walk through the door to enjoy a community afternoon.

Penlee helped to set up this mid week group supporting Natalia to continue to teach art and strengthen her English. Natalia has been a valued volunteer bringing her art skills to our group. Today we celebrate with her and thank her too, she has mentored budding artists and today you can see the what has been achieved.

Thank you to the church for the use of the hall. Art for Well-Being is a collaborative effort- together we can make a difference.

Together we are stronger.

Wondeful to have been back in our refurbished room yesterday for our Friday Meet-Up!

We enjoyed a lovely day, sun was shining, doors open onto the green, a visit by Little Hearts Nursery Children- planting together and a Keep Fit Session with John. Lasagne for lunch, garlic bread and salad, crafting, bingo, refreshments throughout the day- including Rocky Road- what’s not to 😉.

Thank you for baring with us these past few weeks. We have been transient but we stayed connected. Fridays back at Heartlands - do pop along and meet the group, new members are very welcome. 10.00 until 12.00 with afternoon group through to 2.45.

We meet again tomorrow in Portreath but will meet first at Heartlands. Pick up at usual place as we are aware not everyone finds easy to travel to Portreath. This is our last week ‘ on the road’ as our wonderful new room is almost ready. Thank you for your patience and adapting with us. We are almost there 🎉.

We all enjoy our routines, the loveliness of sameness. We love Penlee and meeting on a Friday in familiar surroundings. We also perhaps recognise that we are able to adapt, to stretch ourselves and go with change when it happens. It helps build our resilience as well as keep connections going. Despite a few unsettled weeks, we continue to benefit from meeting up as a Penlee Group - we have stayed connected.

Tomorrow in the Room we will be enjoying a water colour painting session with Natalia. Yoga at 11.45. Lunch for those staying for Peer Support, afternoon activity, popping to water our plants and to see the new room! We also hope to start planning for the next 6 months so come along with ideas!

We have been very busy re structuring and cleaning our room at Heartlands. We still have curtains to hang, painting to do, pictures to source and will, we hope be ready to welcome you all next Friday.

We know how much you enjoy our Friday meetings, as do we and with Julie’s birthday this week we have organised a small party in Portreath at the Jubilee Room- back of Millennium Hall situated on the main road. Many of you have been to this room before. It backs on to the Green where we can then enjoy a walk before finishing at 12.00.

We will see those able to make it at 10.00.
I will be trying to reach as many of you as I can over the next 24hours.

This week- Portreath and next week we will hopefully be show casing our beautiful new space 🎉

Update on poly-tunnel. Great work by Ben with hauling in the heavy top soil and big thanks to Mary who has been helping with our growing.

What a lovely visit this morning to Suzie whom we all miss at our Friday Group. Carol and I went along to see Suzie for coffee and a chat and to send all your good wishes and to take a letter from Amy.

Friendship and connection is SO important. Did you know it can reduce our risk of mental ill health and dementia as we grow older by keeping the brain actively engaged through conversation, and emotional support. This strengthens cognitive function and resilience over time.

Today was fun, enjoyable, uplifting to see Suzie’s smile and her optimism. The weather is good, the sun shining with flowers blowing in the breeze and the sense of Spring embedding.

Yesterday we had plenty of fun and connection- a busy morning at the group with an Easter Quiz, Hot Cross Buns, Easter Egg Hunt with the children from Little Hearts Nursery and Yoga to end the session. We also had an excellent Easter Raffle organised by Julie- great fun. Claire did well and said ‘ thats my Easter done’- well done Claire and thank you Julie.

Community Groups are much more than ‘ catching up over coffee’. They change lives, create safe space, forge friendships and provide opportunities.

Do join us after the Easter Break. 10.00 until 12.00 Unit 4, Artist Terrace.

Heartlands is a great venue and we are hoping April and May will see this space becoming more vibrant with Penlee continuing to thrive as the National Trust hopefully begin to establish itself there too.
