Keep Redditch Tidy is a Community-owned page looking to encourage others to like the area that they live in and to join in litter and street focused projects across Redditch. We all want our town to be a clean, green and an attractive place. This call is still as urgent to us as when we were formed in 2014, to lead the campaign for a town free of litter. The litter pick walk, the doorstep

sweep, and plogging. Pledge your interest

You can simply register your support by pledging and telling us how many minutes you are going to give to keep your chosen area tidy. You could pick up litter while walking the dog or on the walk to school or while running. We can equip you to start your doing our bit to make our town a clearer and better place to be. If you would like to hold a litter pick do get in touch and we can help. We can provide equipment, litter pickers, bags, and hi-viz vests. Publish and promote your event. Not just us noticing it… there’s a bit of a pong about in places at the moment ☀️😅

With the warmer weather, bins left in direct sunlight can heat up quickly. That speeds up what’s inside, which is what causes stronger smells and attracts flies.

A simple tip: if you’re able to, keep your bin in the shade and make sure the lid is fully closed. It can help keep things fresher during the heat.

Small changes like this can make a noticeable difference over the warmer days 👍

We hope everyone is enjoying the Bank Holiday Weekend and the glorious sunshine!

If you’re out in the parks, heading into town, or just making the most of the extra time off.

If you are out and about, please take a moment to look after your surroundings. Put litter in the bin, and if there isn’t one nearby, keep hold of it until you find one or take it home with you.

A small bit of effort from everyone helps keep Redditch and Worcestershire looking its best.

Enjoy the weekend 👍

With the Bank Holiday approaching and some welcome sunshine expected, many will be heading out to enjoy our parks with picnics and snacks.

A simple reminder, please take responsibility for your litter. If a bin is available, use it. If it’s full, or there isn’t one nearby, take it home with you.

We’ve seen recent images of rubbish left scattered across one of our well-known parks after bins filled up. That isn’t acceptable.

Our parks are there for everyone to enjoy. Leaving litter behind spoils them for others, and it shouldn’t be happening.

It’s set to be one of the warmest days of the year today, and it’s a great chance to get out, enjoy the sunshine and make the most of Redditch.

Parks, green spaces and streets will be busy, which is exactly how it should be. But as we enjoy the day, let’s also take a moment to look after the places we’re using. If bins are full or not nearby, please take your litter home with you.

It only takes a second, and it helps keep our town clean for everyone else to enjoy as well.

Let’s enjoy the sunshine and take pride in where we live.

Redditch is looking more untidy than it should. Litter in gutters, debris along footpaths, and small bits of rubbish that are simply being walked past. It does not have to be this way.

A simple question for residents. Do we take care of the area directly outside our own homes? If there is litter in the gutter outside your house, would you pick it up? If the pavement needs a quick sweep, would you take a moment to do it?

Just five or ten minutes now and again can make a noticeable difference. Even once or twice a week is enough to keep an area looking better. Many people who try it say the same thing. It is surprisingly satisfying to clear a space and immediately see the improvement.

Keep Redditch Tidy is asking residents to help take pride in their streets. If you would like to get involved, we can loan litter pickers and high visibility vests, and we can provide bags.

We would like to make a polite request to all dog walkers in the town.

Please do not throw dog poo bags into the hedges. We already have an ongoing problem with litter collecting in our hedgerows, and discarded poo bags only add to the issue. They are unpleasant to see, harmful to wildlife, and take a long time to break down.

If you have taken the time to bag it, please also take it to a proper bin or take it home with you. Leaving bags in hedges, even temporarily, often means they are forgotten and left behind.

Our hedges and green spaces are an important part of the town and we all share responsibility for keeping them clean and welcoming. A little extra care makes a big difference.

Redditch is currently looking rather untidy. Over the recent spell of snow, much of the litter was hidden from view, but now that it has melted it has left our town looking neglected and uncared for. Streets, grass verges, bushes, and public spaces are once again revealing just how much litter is being dropped.

We have been out doing our bit to help tackle the problem, giving up our time because we care about Redditch and want to see it looking its best. But keeping the town tidy is something we all share responsibility for, and we want to encourage everyone to do their bit too by thinking twice before litter is dropped.

Please take a moment to consider how small actions can make a real difference.

• Please do not drop litter. If you cannot find a bin, keep it with you until you can dispose of it properly.

• Do not throw litter into bushes or hedges. It is extremely difficult to retrieve, and most of it does not biodegrade, meaning it will remain there for years.

• If you are waiting for the council to collect household items, please keep them on your property until at least the morning of collection. Ask for a likely collection date where possible. It may be inconvenient for a short time, but it helps keep the town looking tidy and respected.

Doing just these few things can help make Redditch look a little better. Sometimes doing a little really can have a huge impact.

If you care about Redditch and would like to get involved, you are very welcome to join us. Whether you are a business who wants a pledge to promote our campaign, or if you are an individual that wants to get involved and do your bit in your area.

We have been a little quieter on here over the last few months, but that does not mean we have been inactive.

Much of our time has been taken up picking across the town, unblocking drains during the recent rainfalls, reporting flooding issues, and raising ongoing environmental concerns across the area.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our supporters, particularly Thorlux Lighting, for their continued backing of Keep Redditch Tidy.

As the year draws to a close, we would also like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and to thank you for your support throughout the year.

If You Can Drive to McDonald’s, You Can Walk to the Bin

Judging by the wrappers and drink cups scattered across the grass this morning, someone clearly enjoyed a late-night McDonald’s in the car park – and then decided the floor was a better place than the bin that’s less than 10 feet away.

This isn’t forgetfulness. It’s laziness. It’s disrespectful to the community, to the volunteers who give up their time to pick it up, and to the wildlife that can be harmed by it.

If you can carry it to the car, you can carry it to the bin.

If you see it happening – call it out. There is no excuse for it.

Let’s Talk About Litter Along the Roadside

Take a look at the verges and lay-bys along many of our roads, bottles, cans, takeaway boxes, wrappers, and bags. It’s not falling from the sky, it’s being thrown from moving cars.

This mess doesn’t just spoil the view. It damages wildlife, blocks drains, and costs councils thousands to clear. It’s lazy, careless, and completely avoidable.

When our volunteers go out litter picking, around 80% of what we collect is from the side of the road, in the gutter and along the grass verge that runs beside it. We don’t do it for fun; we do it because we want our area to look cared for and tidy.

So next time you finish that chocolate bar or that can of drink, think before you wind down the window and chuck it out. Could you hold onto it for a few more minutes until you find a bin or reach your destination? That small bit of thought makes a big difference.

Litter kills an estimated three million animals every year. Discarded roadside rubbish and food attract wildlife to their death. Use a bin, or wait until you get home.

We’re proud to be working with National Highways to support their “Lend a Paw – bin your litter” campaign. This initiative urges road users to think of our small creatures, reminding people that discarded roadside rubbish, even food or fruit peel, attracts animals to danger. The message is simple: “Lend a paw — bin your litter.”

Those white and grey splodges on our pavements aren’t part of the concrete? they’re chewing gum. Once it’s spat out or dropped, it hardens, traps dirt, and leaves our streets looking shabby.

Getting rid of it isn’t simple. Councils have to use specialist kit such as high-temperature steam cleaners, heated detergent washers, or gum-removal machines that can cost anywhere from several thousand pounds to well over £20,000. Then there are running costs, staff, chemicals, batteries or fuel, and maintenance.

Across the UK, councils spend an estimated £7 million every year just removing chewing gum from streets. That’s money that could be better spent on services we all rely on.

So next time you’re about to get rid of your chewing gum, remember: it costs pennies to buy, but pounds to clean up. Please — put it in the bin
