The government has just published its Unpaid Carers Action Plan: Recognise, Refer, Reach – setting out changes to Carer's Allowance, a new NHS App feature for carers, an updated Carer Passport scheme, and more support for young carers.

We've pulled out what matters most for carers here in Teesside, including two open consultations you can have your say on.

Do you help look after a family member, partner or friend?
You may be an unpaid carer.

A new South Tees Carers Strategy is being developed to help unpaid carers get the right support.

The new priorities include:
• better information
• support for health and wellbeing
• help with money, work and school
• more time for breaks and rest

People are being asked to look at the priorities and share their views.
Feedback will help improve support for unpaid carers across South Tees

Make a Difference This

Around 30,000 unpaid carers are supporting loved ones across South Tees and many more of us will take on that role at some point in our lives.

This Carers Week (8–14 June 2026), you can show your support by taking the South Tees Carers Pledge. It only takes a few minutes, but it can help build understanding, raise awareness and create more carer friendly communities.
