Happy Volunteers Week!

Scout groups across the world rely on volunteers to help offer exciting, adventurous, and varied programmes to our young members - and for this we can’t thank them enough! 👏

At 1st Redbourn we currently run Beavers (6-8yrs), Cubs (8-10.5yrs) and Scouts (10.5-14yrs), and are hoping to start a Squirrels section (4-6yrs) too!

We’re currently looking for people to join our existing Leader teams across all our sections, as well as our fundraising team.

So if you’re interested in trying something new, enjoying the outdoors, becoming more engaged in your local community, or developing some new skills yourself, just get in touch - we’d love to have you on board! ⚜️

Priory Scouts were completing some volunteer work at St Luke's School, Redbourn this weekend, tasked with clearing a disused area of the site in preparation for further developments as part of the school’s ongoing cafe project

The Scouts did a great job, working all day (with some rests!) to clear the area, managing to fill two big skips with what we removed!

We also enjoyed meeting some of the animals on site, as well as a campfire and some games out on the school field in the evening

Great work Scouts 👏

We are very proud to share that one of our own, Angelo, has achieved his King’s Scout Award!

On Sunday he was a part of this year’s Day of Celebration and Achievement at Windsor Castle, alongside all the other KSA recipients from the past year!

The King’s Scout award is the top award available to young people within Scouts, and takes several years of dedication and hard work to achieve.

As well as undertaking 12-18 months of a physical activity, a new skill, voluntary work, and two 4-day expeditions, award recipients must also complete 6 activities on international, community, and values themes, and complete at least 24 nights away with Scouts.

Angelo has been with 1st Redbourn since Beavers, and more recently has been a Young Leader in the Cub section, and is now continuing to volunteer his time within Scouting as a Leader.

Congratulations Angelo! 👏 You are a fantastic role model for our younger members, long may your passion and dedication continue on your journey in Scouts

Three 1st Redbourn Scouts joined forces with 1st Kings Langley and 5th North Watford troops on Saturday to help out Rangers from the Chiltern Society and the River Chess Association with a riverbank restoration project

We got stuck in collecting materials and building a structure in the river to help conserve and protect the existing riverbank, and create a better environment on the river bed for local wildlife to flourish 🐟

Well done Scouts and huge thanks to the Rangers for having us!

Following on from our last post…

The older Scouts were completing their expedition challenge badge this weekend, completing a two day independent hike carrying all their gear, tents, and food! 🥾🧭

They navigated cross country from Bovingdon to Chorleywood on Saturday, joining the rest of us on camp, then hiked out from Chorleywood to Kings Langley on Sunday

This challenge badge is a big undertaking for the Scouts, often the culmination of several years in their Troop. They had to rely on their own planning, navigation, and independent decision making skills, and we’d like to say a huge well done to all three teams for such a successful expedition! 👏

Both Scout troops were together for camp in Chorleywood this weekend 🏕️

The younger Scouts went back to basics, covering some essential scouting skills. They were certainly busy on Saturday with tent pitching, menu planning, budgeting and shopping, a short hike to the shops, an evening of cooking on fires, and then some wide games

Sunday they cooked breakfast over their fires and then got to work building some camp gadgets and striking camp

Stay tuned for what the older Scouts were up to…

❄️ Priory Scouts were once again at PACCAR Scout Camp Chalfont Heights for February Freezer camp this weekend! ❄️

As usual the Scouts had a blast, enjoying all the activities on site throughout the weekend. We enjoyed glorious blue skies and sunshine on Saturday, with an absolute downpour on Sunday morning, but we didn’t let it dampen our spirits!

Last weekend we had three teams entered in the Hertfordshire Scouts county cooking competition 🫑🍅

Our Scouts came up with a three course menu, all planned, budgeted, shopped, cooked, and cleaned up independently! They came in at 6th, 8th and 9th of the 12 teams entered, a great result given it was their first time at the competition 🧑🏻‍🍳 Well done to our teams - Totally Toast, the Beanies, and the Pink Panthers!
