🇱🇰✨ It was a great privilege and honour to welcome His Excellency Nimal Senadheera, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, together with our Distinguished Guests, to the Festival of Netball 2026 celebrations.

Their esteemed presence brought immense prestige to the occasion and reaffirmed the importance of fostering unity, friendship, and sisterhood within the Sri Lankan community in the United Kingdom. Their support and encouragement made this celebration all the more meaningful as we came together to celebrate sport, strengthen community ties, and showcase the enduring spirit of togetherness that lies at the heart of the Festival of Netball.

🙏💕 REST IN PEACE 💕🙏
MARIAZELLE GOONETILLEKE

11 June 1958 - 10 JULY 2026

On behalf of the Festival of Netball (FON) Family in the UK, we extend our deepest condolences to Mariazelle's beloved family, friends, and her countless admirers around the world. Her extraordinary voice, unmatched talent, and generous spirit touched countless lives and will continue to inspire generations to come.

Mariazelle was not only one of Sri Lanka's most celebrated singers but also a woman whose generosity knew no bounds. She wholeheartedly embraced the vision of the Festival of Netball (FON), creating and recording our inaugural FON song in 2024 without accepting a single penny. Her kindness, encouragement, and belief in our journey will forever remain a cherished part of the FON legacy.

Her timeless classic "Kandy Lamissi" continues to unite Sri Lankans across the globe, bringing joy to every celebration and remaining an unforgettable anthem on dance floors wherever Sri Lankans gather. Yet beyond her remarkable musical legacy, we will remember her for her humility, generosity, and unwavering support.

Thank you, Mariazelle, for believing in us from the very beginning. Your music will live on in our hearts, and your kindness will forever be part of the Festival of Netball's journey.

May your beautiful soul rest in eternal peace.

Gone too soon, but your voice, your kindness, and your legacy will live on forever.
