Our thoughts go out to all who knew Christopher Buckell. We are sharing Alix's message of the gofundme set up to pay for his funeral. His best mate says everything in a better waythan we ever could.

"Hi, I’m Alix, Chris’s best mate.

We tragically lost our much-loved friend and family man, Christopher James Buckell — Chris to everyone who knew him.

Chris was one of those people who left a mark on the lives of the people around him. He was a much-loved son, brother, father to 3 beautiful children, family member and friend, and his loss has left a huge hole that is impossible to put into words.

At an already incredibly difficult time, Chris’s family are now faced with the unexpected cost of arranging his funeral and giving him the send-off he deserves. We have therefore set up this GoFundMe to try to take some of that financial pressure away from them and allow everyone to concentrate on saying goodbye to Chris properly.

Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean an enormous amount. If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this page would also be hugely appreciated.

Every penny raised will go towards Chris’s funeral and the costs surrounding his final farewell.

Chris meant so much to so many of us, and we just want to do everything we can to give him the send-off he deserves.

We're hiring: Step 2 Success Lead
£27,000 per annum | Full-time | Wokingham Borough

Reading FC Community Trust is looking for an experienced practitioner to lead Step 2 Success, our 12-week Early Help programme funded by Wokingham Borough Council. It helps children and young people aged 8 to 16 whose attendance, behaviour or emotional wellbeing is getting in the way of school.

This is not simply a sports coaching role. You'll become a trusted adult for young people, many with EBSA, SEND or neurodivergent needs. You'll work closely with parents/carers, schools and other professionals, take part in multi-agency meetings (TAF, CIN, Child Protection), and show progress using structured monitoring tools.

We're looking for strong experience in Early Help, youth work, mentoring, education or family support, and a sound understanding of safeguarding and trauma-informed practice.

To apply: send your CV and a covering letter to Paul Brown, [email protected]
For a full job description: email Tara Baker at [email protected]

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as they are received, so we encourage you to apply early. We may close early if we receive a strong response.

Reading FC Community Trust is committed to safeguarding. The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and safer-recruitment checks.

Big news for our local community! 💚

Westcoast is now an Official Community Partner of Reading FC Community Trust, and together we're launching Westcoast Futures.

Six local secondary schools. Ten weeks of building skills and confidence. Dragons' Den-style pitch days at the Select Car Leasing Stadium. And a £10,000 prize for one school. ⚽

Two schools have signed up so far, Little Heath and King's Academy Prospect, with four more in the pipeline.

Sir John Madejski OBE DL, Patron of the Trust, has given his support for this partnership:

"The strongest businesses are the ones that remember where they come from. By standing alongside Reading FC Community Trust, Westcoast is investing in the young people of our town and in the future of Berkshire. That kind of commitment makes a real and lasting difference, and it is exactly what community should mean."

Investing in local talent is investing in our future.

Here's to inspiring the talent of tomorrow.
