It's a busy week as it's also Libraries Week this week. The theme this year is Libraries Change Lives and we couldn't agree more! We're very lucky that lots of our volunteers get to work in some wonderful school libraries and it's a great opportunity to help the children explore some of the huge array of books available to them.

We're at Maidenhead Library today sharing the work of ABC to read and looking to recruit new volunteers.

Since 2004, we have been a local charity supporting local people, helping children in Berkshire primary schools who are struggling with reading. Our volunteers provide regular one-to-one reading support, helping children build confidence, improve their literacy skills and enjoy reading.

If you're interested in making a difference in your local community, come and have a chat with us. We'd love to tell you more about our volunteering opportunities and the impact they have on local children.

๐Ÿ“š Power of Youth Day 2026 ๐Ÿ“š

Today we're celebrating the incredible difference young people can make in their communities.

Through our Buddy Workshops, we train primary and secondary school and sstudents to support younger children with their reading. By sharing their time, encouragement and enthusiasm, these young reading buddies help build confidence, develop literacy skills and inspire a love of reading.

This year's theme, Common Ground, reflects what we see every day โ€“ young people coming together to support one another, build connections and create positive change in their schools.

Thank you to all the student reading buddies who are using their skills and leadership to help younger readers succeed.

As Share a Story Month comes to a close, we are delighted to be sharing a special reading of Albert the Tortoise Upside Down by the author himself, Ian Brown. ๐Ÿ“š

Listening to stories read aloud helps children build confidence, develop language skills and discover the joy of books. We hope this special reading inspires more children to enjoy sharing stories together. ALBERT the tortoise
