We've had a report that this morning at 8:55 am in Wokingham a Swiss driver in a white BMW with license plate ZH 365 637 killed a cat. It was a 30 mph speed limit road, the couple driving on the other side of the road could see the cat running across the road and alerted him with their car horn and still the other continued to drive over the speed limit, fatally injuring this poor cat.
To think it's legally acceptable to kill cats like this is outrageous and this petition supported by the RSPCA (England & Wales) calls for a change in the law to include cats in the Road Traffic Act. Any information and support is welcome.
Did you know that if you hit a cat with your car, legally you do not have to report this to the police? 🐈
Drivers legally have to report if they hit other animals including dogs, pigs, horses, cattle and goats, but sadly cats aren't covered by the same legislation.
Cats are much more likely to be affected by road traffic accidents, which is why we're calling on the UK Government to ensure that reporting cats hit by cars becomes mandatory.
This comes after a member of the public, Kellie Watson, launched a petition after her kitten was fatally hit by a car. Sign the petition here: https://bit.ly/4jYbSyM
