One of our Trustees, Jubair Khan, has set sail from Spain as part of a flotilla of over 100 boats carrying 1,000 volunteers to break the illegal siege of Gaza.

For 20 years, Israel has controlled the land, air, and sea around Gaza, devastating the economy and leading to starvation. This flotilla is sailing to break that blockade and open a corridor for aid.

Last year they went with 50 boats. This year they're coming back with more than double that number.

One of our local councillors in Reading has tabled a motion urging Reading Borough Council to divest its pensions from companies complicit in supporting the genocide in Palestine.

We are calling on our community to show their support by attending the council chambers on Bridge Street.

**Please wear your Palestinian hoodies, tops, keffiyehs, and bring your Palestinian flags**. Note: flags can be worn but not waved as they won’t be allowed inside.

This is a non-verbal show of solidarity to let the council know that this issue matters deeply to the people of Reading. Only cheer when the motion is presented.

IMPORTANT: The people of Gaza and Lebanon need your support! Sunday 29th September 2pm - 3:30pm, Palestine Solidarity March to Broad Street, Reading. This Sunday 29th September, we will march across Reading from two starting points, meet at 2pm sharp.

Starting Points:
1 - Pakistani Community Centre - London Road side (373 London Rd, Reading RG1 3PA)
2 - Outside Subway on Oxford Road (21 Oxford Rd, Reading RG1 7QG)

To make this march a success we need to large crowds on both marches to converge in the town centre outside HSBC at 3pm. Please get family and friends to drop you outside one of the two meeting points and meet you in the town centre afterwards to pick you up. Gaza is suffering from devastating, genocidal bombing and starvation. The people of Gaza and Lebanon need you! They need your support and for your voices to converge after the marches outside HSBC at 3pm.

Please consider these ideas; wearing black, pushing a baby buggy with a bloodied shroud or children’s clothing inside, carrying a shroud or doll or photo of a child before Israel killed them. We want to make a huge impact to highlight the atrocities of over 2,100 babies under 2 years old being slaughtered by Israel.

**Public Statement: Far-Right Potential Riots in Reading**

Messages have been widely circulated online about potential far-right riots and disorder being organised in Reading in the next few days. We urge all members of the public, the BAME and Muslim community to remain calm and peaceful.

During these difficult times, it is imperative that we maintain a sense of composure and abstain from actions that might escalate the situation further. We encourage all members of the community to remain peaceful and to refrain from participating in any counter-protests. Our strength lies in our solidarity, and by staying united, we send a powerful message that we will not be divided by hatred or intolerance. Please remain alert and avoid being lured into provocations or disturbances.

Reading Muslim want to reassure the community that we have been in discussions with the police to ensure adequate plans are in place to protect individuals, mosques, places of worship, community centres and institutions that support vulnerable communities. It is important that we trust the authorities to navigate this situation and grant them the space to work without outside interference.

Together, let us continue to strive to maintain Reading as a place of sanctuary, peace, and warmth for everyone. By standing united, we illustrate the strength and resilience of our community in overcoming difficulties. We sincerely value your understanding, collaboration, and commitment to the ideals that strengthen our community.

**Statement On The Far Right Protests By Reading Muslim:**

In light of the heartbreaking events in Southport, where the senseless killings have claimed the lives of innocent, young children, our deepest condolences, prayers and thoughts go out to the families, loved ones and local community affected by this unimaginable loss.

We unequivocally denounce the aggressive actions perpetrated by far-right groups who have engaged in violence against police officers up and down the country in reaction to the murders in Southport. Such expressions of islamophobia, hatred, aggression and mindless vandalism are unacceptable in our society and only seek to cause divisions among us. We express our solidarity with the communities in Southport, Liverpool, Hartlepool and across the country, in opposing any efforts to blame or demonise the Muslim, refugee, BAME community or any other group. We call upon all individuals to respond to this situation with empathy and understanding, acknowledging that our true strength is found in unity and mutual respect.

The Muslim community in Reading is unwavering in its commitment to cultivating peace, understanding, and solidarity within all communities. We invite local leaders, authorities, and residents to unite with us in fostering peace and unity, safeguarding our collective humanity from the shadows of fear and hatred. The extremist far-right’s Islamophobic ideology that fosters such hatred and division must be addressed urgently. We urge the newly elected government and our elected representatives locally to take more decisive steps in dealing with this pressing issue.

In light of recent events, we advise mosques, places of worship and the BAME community to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure the safety and security of their congregations.

We commend the dedication of the police and emergency services in their swift response to these incidents and encourage the community to show their solidarity in upholding peace and security. Let us unite in healing and denouncing all manifestations of hatred.
