Still the Hunger provides a variety of psychological therapy options for men, women, and adolescents suffering with emotional difficulties using psychodynamic psychotherapy, EMDR, group therapy, and Compassion-focused Therapy. We work with people on an individual weekly basis as well as offering group therapy and 24/7 on-line support for group members. We work with conditions including complex tra
uma, DID, Body Dysmorphia, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self-harm, and other dysfunctional coping mechanisms. We aim to build self-esteem within a supportive environment as individuals learn to overcome negative patterns of thinking and behaving. By providing individual and group therapy, people are enabled to address deep issues as they gradually regain control of their lives. We launched in 2012 to alleviate pressures felt in response to the growing waiting lists for mental health services and limited options for those with complex needs. We receive referrals from GP’s, secondary care providers, as well as via self-referral, to offer support that is not time limited and for as long as needed. Alongside our own services, we also run a support group for the BDD Foundation for anybody suffering with Body Dysmorphic Disorder. This is a free monthly service that anybody can access on a month by month basis without booking. We offer: Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Group Therapy & EMDR with Beverley Hutton and
Psychodynamic Counselling with Charles French. Our name Still the Hunger comes from an older translation from a verse in the Psalms. ‘You still the hunger of those you cherish' Ps. 17:14 in the Bible. This verse offers the perspective that our 'inner cravings' can be met as we seek to understand and engage with the teachings and person of Jesus. As a Christian charity we also offer the opportunity to explore spirituality and recovery from a more holistic perspective, that includes not just our mental health, but our physical and spiritual health as well. We have written our own mental health training programme on complex mental health issues from a biblical and clinical perspective, which is available to buy from Amazon (The MORE Course by Beverley Hutton) which can be used as a self-help guide, or as a resource for the church. We also offer a new version of this training for mental health Professionals as an on-line webinar.
