It has been a busy couple of weekends with volunteers at the Reading university open day yesterday & the teams out as usual on Friday & Saturday nights.
October 2009 was when Reading Street Pastors first started going out just at the weekends. God has really blessed this initiative & opened so many doors & made available many opportunities. The team of volunteers has grown & grown making what we do now possible. Thank you 🙏

Well that was a crazy busy Friday night. All the wheelchairs were in constant use taking young uni students back to the Safe Space.

What a weekend for our Street Pastors! 👣💙

Plenty of vomit 🤢 lots of laughs and lots of calls for help from the venues! 😊

Working in partnership with our First Stop volunteers and the police, we’ve been out caring, listening and helping across Reading — supporting those who needed us and helping to keep the night-time economy safer.

And the volunteers haven’t just been out at the weekend, We’ve also been out supporting staff at the stations and at Reading College this week,being there for our community in different places and in different ways.

We were back out last night supporting the start of Freshers! 🎓👣

None of this would be possible without our amazing volunteers who give their time, energy and compassion week after week. Thank you — you’re amazing! 💙👣

The volunteers were at Reading College Freshers fair today. Many conversations had, lots of lollypops & wristbands given out. Great to be back for the start of a new term. 😊

A joint work party this morning with cleaning up the Safe Space car park. Thank you to the street cleaning team for picking up some of the rubbish. 😊

Friday evening was calm, supported three people. Saturday was busier, starting with a call from TVP for assistance to help someone, great partnership working meant the person got home safely. Thank you to the generosity of a taxi driver who thanked us for our work & charged a reduced rate to help get another person home.
Thank you to God who always places us where we need to be at the right time. 🙏

We never know when we might make a difference. ❤️

Today as the volunteers patrolled the town centre they met someone who shared their story. They had met the Street Pastors a couple of years ago one Friday night, they were struggling and the volunteers listened. Fast forward to today & they shared that they met God & became a Christian and wanted to thank the volunteers two years ago for their kindness.

It’s a wonderful reminder that sometimes, a conversation, a listening ear and a little kindness can be the beginning of something life-changing.

We may never know the full story of the people we meet on the streets,but we can always choose to care, listen and help. 🙏

It has been a quieter weekend. John Sykes Foundation kindly invited volunteers to join them at Select Car Leasing Reading Football Club yesterday afternoon to watch Reading play Blackpool.Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.Thank you to Friday nights team for covering the First Stop as well as patrolling. Last night we said goodbye to our youngest volunteer as they head off to university to study medicine. So many conversations, lollypops 🍭 exchanged for chips 🍟 and God always putting us in the right places at the right time. 🙏

In a blink, it’s all over — packed away for another year! 🎶❤️

Last night was wet, the tents were busy through to early this morning. The Street Pastors patrolling certainly got their steps in and also got soaked to the skin literally as they were helping many people who were trying to head home in the torrential rain 🌧️

We feel so privileged to have been there, walking alongside festival-goers, listening, supporting and being there when people needed us. So many conversations, encounters, smiles, challenges and special moments that we’ll take away with us.

A huge thank you to Reading and Leeds Festival for having us and to every one of our amazing volunteers who gave their time, energy and care throughout the weekend. Just saying thank you never seems enough🙏

And finally, a very special thank you to all the parents who took the time to send us such kind messages on our socials as well as private messages. We’ve been completely blown away by your words and it means so much to know that what we do makes a difference. ❤️
