Many Accord members will have seen today's announcement about the future of the Halifax brand.

We understand this news will mean different things to different people, particularly for colleagues with long connections to the Halifax.

Whatever names appear above the employers’ doors, Accord's purpose remains exactly the same. We'll continue campaigning for job security, fair reward, dignity at work and equality. We'll continue supporting members when they need us most. And we'll continue building a stronger union that can influence decisions and make a real difference to working lives.

We've published an update explaining what the announcement means and how members can share any questions or concerns with us.

Accord responds to Lloyds Banking Group’s plan to transition the Halifax brand, confirming no job losses, no contract changes, and continued member support.

The UK is experiencing a period of very hot weather, with temperatures in some areas reaching well into the 30s. While many people enjoy the sunshine, working in high temperatures can quickly become uncomfortable and, in some cases, unsafe.

We’ve updated our guidance to reflect the current heatwave, covering:

🔵 Your rights at work when temperatures rise.
🔵 What your employer should be doing to keep you safe.
🔵 Practical steps you can take to stay cool and well.

There’s no maximum legal temperature for workplaces, but employers still have a duty to keep conditions reasonable – and that matters even more during extreme weather.

If you’re struggling with the heat, it’s important to speak up and take steps to protect your wellbeing.

Take a look at our updated advice👇

Get practical advice on staying safe at work during the UK heatwave. Understand your rights, what your employer should do, and steps you can take to stay cool and well.

AI is becoming part of everyday working life, including when people raise workplace concerns.

Used carefully, it can help structure thoughts and make it easier to get started. But it also has limits. AI tools don’t understand the full context of your situation and can sometimes overstate issues, misapply the law or create unnecessarily confrontational wording.

We’re seeing more complaints that sound legally impressive but don’t reflect the underlying issue.

The most effective complaints are usually:
• Factual
• Focused
• Evidence-based
• Clear about the outcome you’re looking for

If you’re thinking about raising a concern, speak to Accord first.

We’ll help you make sure it’s clear, credible and focused on achieving the best possible outcome.

A great discussion from our guest speaker from Lloyds Banking Group. We've been managing change for hundreds of years: from typewriters and early computers to AI. We can either standstill and wait and see, or we can be at the forefront of the change.

Thought-provoking stuff for our delegates - let's continue to grow our skills and not be passive passengers in change.
